Hi all. I've been trawling through endless ident books and need your help.
I'm a Landscape Gardener and have a client with this tree in their garden.
They moved in 15 years ago and the tree was already in. We want to remove it in order to re do their garden. They were told, when they moved in that if they removed the tree it was possible that the rotting of the roots could cause subsidence to the neighbours house. They were also told that if it was hard pruned every year this would reduce the amount of root growth as it would concentrate all it it's energy on re-shooting. Sounds like a load of codswallop. But I'm not an expert.
Our argument is that surely if the tree was left then this in itself could cause damage to the structural integrity of the house.
Firstly, What are your thoughts on this matter and secondly is it a Wing Nut tree. PTEROCARYA fraxinifolia.
Any help on this would be much appreciated
Thanks

Thanks guys I'll go with the general consensus on the tree. We did think sumach initially but it just wasn't furry enough and the non furry varieties have serated leaves.
Obviously it should never have gone in or been left 15years plus. My clients are into eco living and living the GOOD LIFE. Let's call them Richard and Felicity! We are all for removal but even though it could come down in one without any probs I think I'll let them get one of you guys in. As for the date on the photos. We have a great camera. It eats batteries like you wouldn't believe so we take them out when we aren't using it. As one of you pointed out I am a lazy arse. It's to much hassle to redo the date every time.
Thanks again
