  1. Smithers, can ya tell us the spec of yer truck please, with regards to enjun type/cc etc. got low box, difflocks etc. what can it lift, what can it winch, what can it tow? Is it a 12 tonner, etc

Yes i do like it alot.:001_smile:

    Hi wicklamulla

The engine is 8.2L TD and as hi & low box and locking diffs, the max weight the crane lifts is 3800KG on the first arm and 1200KG on full reach which is 14m, it weighs 8.3tonne(without the crane) and can carry 8 tonne, unsure about towing as I've never used it for towing but is fitted with military tow bar and plugs for the air brakes, as for the winch it's 10 tonne and is driven by the gear box so the higher the gear the faster it will go. It also as a air brake on it so you can tension up and lock it off.

    Hope this helps

  2. To work on the rail you need protection in place and a minimum n of 25 sec ( LuL ) of sighting time time if the weather turns and visibility is reduced then work must stop that's h&s also rain will increase risk of slipping tripping etc

So no we won't work in the rain, and even if there was gang made of you lot who are super keen to crack on and work your fingers to the bone you wouldn't last 5 mins coz a train driver would report you and you'd be stopped reported suspended etc

I think it's fair to say that all the guys making negative comments are making comments on a subject you no nothing about but it's Great fun reading them

Remember guys there's 2 sides to every story

That's where you are very much mistaken, I've forgotten more on the rail than you know, I was a subcontractor on the railway for many many years and wouldn't go back there for a gold pig.

Was the same when I was direct sse staff, if you got soaked through, ya went home, some h&s bollocks or something... But I imagine they're electric train lines he's talking about?? If it's around London??

I think it's just a excuse to be idle, working near electricity you need to maintain the correct safety distance or it as got to be isolated, I was talking to somebody in December who had started work for the local authorities, on his first day I asked how he'd got on, he told me that they had not set foot outside the van all day as it was raining. He said the lads don't work when it's raining as they will get their PPE and climbing equipment dirty.

  4. I'm a big fan of the Rangers. You'll get a really tidy older model for that money and they're bomb proof.

If you have a lot of kit maybe look at the super cab. It will squeeze in passengers if you have to or have good space behind the seats for kit. The bed is about half way between a crew cab and a single. It's a good compromise if you think you will ever need to take extra bodies anywhere. If you only ever plan to take yourself and one staff member/the wife then a vault on the back is removable and gives better load space if you were to need it. It all comes down to people. Kit can go anywhere, passengers can't.

Agreed, I'd go for the Ranger [emoji106]

  5. I've got a 2008 tipper, It had 32k on it when I purchased it three years ago, it's now done over 60k and it's gone straight through its test every year. Apart from a service each year I haven't had to spend a penny on it. Ive also got two defender 130 double cab's and a izuzu d max and out of them all the ranger is the best towing vehicle I've got.

  6. What saws/kit are you using? Autotune & four stroke really needs semi or full synthetic!

We use a range of different saws

    Husqvana's 550/560xp, 395xp, 540xp and 3120.

    Stihl's ms362, ms441,ms 460,ms660,ms650, ms200, & ms201's

I'm putting red Stihl in all of the above

  7. Just after a little feedback on what 2 stroke is the most popular, I used to use Oregon many years ago but have used Stihl for over 5 years now. I've recently had a lot of issues with saws not running right and have been told by a friend to try using husqvana 2 stroke as it is way better for the saws as Stihl 2 stoke contains water.

It's a new one on me, but though I'd ask
