I am looking for some advice on Sitka spruce value and specifications. At some point over the next 6 months we will be thinning Sitka in our own woodland. I have no idea what its roadside value would be and also what lengths we should cut it too? The timber is medium sized and is based in East Devon. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Hi, I have just been given 2 Stihl 017 chainsaws. 1 is a year 1995 and 1 is a year 1997, both in great condition. Am I right in thinking they run a 50 to 1 fuel mixture or because of the age do they run 25 to 1 mix. Also what is the longest bar they will run.
Thanks in advance

I have used Photinia, nice wood to turn, fairly plane looking and it has a habit of splitting after turning. Make sure it is well seasoned or kiln dried.

I would agree that the izy handle is a bit low and if i am
mowing all day I do get a bit of back ache. It is still a great mower though for the money. The problem I find with the auto choke is when the weather is cold and you are continually stop starting the choke gets a little confused, fine when its warm though.

I have used the 18 inch self propelled honda izy for years and it is a great mower, a nice cut and has never let me down, perfect for small to medium lawns. The honda engine is great. I prefer the older version though, the automatic choke on the newer one is crap!

I have the fs55 and it is great.

The first time I smashed a window the insurance company told me that it was just an accident and that it should be the owner of the property that is responsible for checking that the grass is safe to mow and the breakage was not my problem. An interesting way of looking at it. I was upfront with my customer and offered to pay for the window, but they claimed it on the house insurance as they had no excess on glass damage.

I have always had Echo but have just had to replace my long reach trimmer. I bought a shindaiwa from Abbey Garden Sales which cost £308 delivered on special offer. Its brilliant, been using it 2 weeks now and it is so much better than I expected, just as good as the echo but better balanced. 2 year commercial warranty. If you are looking for a long reach I really think it should be considered.

Taken it in and the supplier said that they have had carb problems with some of the new izys. I have a 5 year old one as well and that has never let me down, why did honda have to make a change to what was a perfectly good mower.

Right sorted now. It was the Solenoid that was faulty, when I disconected the cable from the solenoid to the starter I realised that the solenoid connection was duff so Ive put a new one on and its as good as new. Just shows that you were all right in saying check and double check the connections. Many thanks for all your help

Had a lucky moment down the pub today. I spoke to the bloke I bought the tractor from a year ago and he has another in his yard. I can go up and borrow the starter off his tractor and see if it will start mine. At least then I will know If my starter is faulty.

Checked all cables this morning and apart from 1 frayed the rest are ok. I bypassed the frayed one and will replace but I still did not get any joy. I have ordered an overhaul kit for the starter at a cost of £15 inc delivery so will get it off and strip it down and let you all know how I got on in a week or so. Thanks for all your replies

Thanks all
The cable from the battery to the solenoid gets extremley hot to the point that its melts the solder. I will try and check the connections tomorrow but I am sure the battery is good and I have charged it and it sparks. I am not good with vehicle electrics but will give it a go.

Hi all
I cant get my international started. It was working fine and now the engine will only turn over very slowly. I thought it was the battery at first but it is fine. How do I tell if it is the starter motor. Any help or advice would be much appreciated

I am going to sell my mccormick international b414 tractor. It is in good/fair condition and the pto and hydrolics work fine. It has good turf tyres and a safety cab. The only problems are that the electrics dont work, not sure why, the steering is heavy and the brakes are poor but do work. This tractor starts well and runs lovely. Would suit a yard for running log splitter ect.
I will post pics when i have them
Looking for offers in region of £900
Will need collecting from exmouth nr exeter
At the moment it is in a barn so dry but I have been asked to move it and dont want to let it rust in the field
