  1. If you have a defender with a 200 in it must be wrong side of 16 years old. You have probably cured most of its problems for a year or two. All the later pick ups can give expensive problems some are lucky some are not. When paying good money for a truck i would prefer not to take the chance. To a large extent you know where you are with a defender no expensive parts or nasty suprises but if you dont do your own repairs bills can mount up.
  2. I like the mini digger idea as you can take it to site and leave it for the day. Putting an 025 hiab on an ifor williams eats too much into you 2.5tonne payload and will kill the back of your 4x4.
  3. We played the game that way the first year we started. Now 3 days before christmas its nets for collection at the gate only no deliveries. You can understand people not ordering in July but Christmas eve I wont even go there. The phone calls follow the temperature ie 8 deg no calls 0 deg lots -3 deg rings of the hook.
  4. Thanks for the link I may try that non genuine muffler. Looks like it could be a bit thicker and less tensile than the genuine may last a bit longer. The only reason I found it falling off was I struggled to get it to 4 stroke. When cutting it revved far to high and easily. Basically leaned out too much luckily piston and pot A1.
  5. Rob I think thats how our problem started. One snaps then the other two fatigue the silencer and it all falls to bits. Once you have snapped the other two off they all just unclip from the head. May be worth doing before the silencer ends up like ours.
  6. One of the exhaust bolts was loose when I tried to tighten or free it snapped. Now the others have gone. The baffle in the muffler is loose and the front has all broken up. I was thinking 3 new bolts and muffler or has anyone found a cheap improvement by welding up the mufler with some bushes.
  7. The way round it is to have two tanks one red one white with two change over valves one for feed and one return. If u are worried about tainting it remember the tanker that delivers your fuel uses the same pipes and tanks to deliver red or white.
  8. Its another money making exercise left over from the labour party. Just like the licence u need if you want to light a bonfire. the licence for £30 I need when i call someone to take away the waste oil and the £160 waste carriers licence I feel a pattern emerging here. After u have handed over 75% in tax and fuel duty vat etc the powers that be have worked out u still got 25% left and that clearly annoys them so they created a few licences
  9. I have a good fabricator . Not planning on any chassis bending or bogies. will need to be a proper job as we are intending putting 15 tonne of cord on it. The front axle is lift job but the air bag has blown off so may remove that as the other two are good for 8.5 tonnes ea.
  10. who forgot to order the skips. Nice one you could list it on ebay as reclaimed building materials dont mention fire wood.
  11. I did it years ago and within 3 months they produced a new one and mine was not valid. They cant make it too hard as the polish that dont speak english would not be able to pass.
  12. Have purchased this brick trailer with the intension of cutting the front off and getting a drawbar fitted for large tractor with air. Anyone been down this route any advice before i throw some money at it.
  13. Is it hardwood is it seasoned and do they deliver 1cu or is it a .56 builders bag. At £80 a cu round here cant get my hands on enough cord. With new prices will need to be £95 a cube next year.
  14. when I think of reclaimed veg oil I picture a chip pan with gunk stuck to the side. I would imagine some of the old 1980 inline pumps fitted to mercs etc may take some abuse but modern electronic stuff ?. Common rail systems are developed with help from the major fuel refiners but I have never heard of BMW nipping down the chip shop for advice. I would be interested to hear of your findings long term
  15. When your only saving 30p a litre considering you will be slightly down on power I cant see the point especially with injectors at £170 ea and fuel pumps often 2k plus ?
  16. I think you will find if you limit your breeding and improve the enviroment in britain it will still be overcrowded just they wont be english scottish or welsh
  17. I have found for sale a A Weima Brikettiertechnik TH40 briquetting machine no. 950-904 with hydraulic ram, conveyor feed system, delivery piping to skip, Protimeter moisture meter and accessories The bricks they made looked abit loose so not sure if this machine has enough pressure ?
  18. There is a course and a piece of legislation for every action in every business. Soon you will need a ticket to wipe your back side. The basic chainsaw cert is essential for anyone with limited experience if your going to cut one tree or thousands. There is even a course if you use a 4" grinder to repair your kit. Another for a bench grinder. How many people on here have used a hiab without a ticket or test on the crane ???. Large corporations can afford to have their staff on courses, maternity, sick or holiday for 5 months of the year but we run small to medium size businesses. Britain has now out priced itself in the world and large companies are leaving in droves to start up in china.
  19. it started on the 20th at 11pm and its now the 22nd so that will be 43 hrs another pointless post
  20. I am still trying to build the perfect machine to prepare offcuts in to 6" kindlet food without spending a fortune.
  21. Living in poor conditions because you are afraid to work may increase risk. I think stress lowers your resistance to alot of illness. Keep away from waste oil and worry about the rest less. Unleaded fuel has got more nasties in it than it did 10 years ago and it has been reported as a risk just filling up a car so who knows what its doing burning 1metre from your face.
  22. I think there should be a tax of £100 on here if you talk the price of firewood down and dont even sell it yourself. Albedo you must have had a good drink to put that one up
  23. We tried putting half rounds and rounds through our machine but gave up and went back to planned stuff tried a few times just seems alot of hassle and alot of bark.
  24. 500kg inc driver. Its a mk 3 so no turbo ( very slow ) and leaf springs all round ( very slow and very bouncy ).
