On friday night / saturday morning at about 2.30 am near Whiddon Down on the A30 in Devon, near Okehampton, my friend was driving his fully laden Bedforf MK truck back to cornwall after a season's woodcarving work, when he was hit by an artic which rolled his whole rig (ABOUT 10 TONNES) five times!!!!!! Anyway, there are still two of his four dogs missing. Below are two links to facebook where details are available. If anyone in the area or otherwise knows anything please help.
If anyone has any info then please help!!

Trees what you have to think about is cost of repairs? Landys shouldn't really cost much for repairs and maintenance and servicing you can do yourself. A lot of people bash Landys for being unreliable but how hard are some of them treated?
quite.
-
That's the problem. I don't go off road that much. But basically cos I can't.
I'm trying to persuade myself to get the landy but I'm dreading the constant repairs that I keep getting warned about.
Plus, a landy is hardly the comfiest of things to drive if I remember correctly.
The people who go on about constant repairs are almost always those who have bought a 'cheap' (ie knackered abused and worn out) land rover, or who are jealous of them or regret buying a jap thing. They are no less reliable than any other 4x4 in the same work.....they just get far more abuse as they have a reputation of being hardcore as hell, hence they break. However they are very very very cheap to repair.

we've had one about a week now and are very pleased with it indeed. far better than the ms201 IMO.

you need a second oiler at the end of the bar, as you wil be losing oil a bit due to the way you are running your saw when milling. RobD, who is the alaskan mill importer, can supply the proper attachment, or you can bodge something like a lawnmower petrol tank with a pipe running down to the bar at the far end of the bar.

im moving my girlfriend from Poole to down here this weekend lol

Hope you're doing well, long time since I've seen you on here.

That is stunning!

Well i take back what i said earlier in this thread. The saw has done shed loads of work now, and i still hate it. I think its awful. It runs poorly, has little power, is heavy and unreliable. Cant wait to replace it. Genuinely do NOT recommend this saw.

Mmmm, that is a valid point Bob for sure.
One thing I'd point out though is, there cant be many folk on here that have used both the 540xpt and the 201t to give a realistic comparison.
As it happens I have, and as a result I WILL wait until the husky is released properly

other than for self recovery beardy weirdy off oraders the likes of plasma is a waste of time for serious winch use in tree work as it frays and snaps too regularly, and cannot be trusted to hold large lumps of timber when at critical points- say parbuckling up a hill for example! You should NEVER pull other than in a straight line, using redirects if necessary (snatch blocks) anyway. If you only winch in under tension (even if its ur mate applying the tension whilst you put the wire back on the winch drum after use) and if you keep your winch cable well oiled, for example a liberal coating every few months depending on usage, then it will help the cable lay neatly on wind in, and will also extend the life of your cable enormously. There is also a spring loaded bar that will keep the cable layering perfectly onto the drum, many cranes and recovery trucks use them. About £100 ish for one suitable for the h14.

In my experience Dave bowyer is a waste of space when it comes to the H14w. Go direst to Superwinch in tavistock, they are extremely helpfiul. However the same happened to mine, I took the winch apart (very simple job) and welded it up.
superwinch : 01822614101.
BTW they fully reconditioned my partner's for £500- it is like new now, painted and restickered and everything.

Well i was right- one of the chippers turned up in a field across the road from where i lived until august last year. My lovely ex neighbours were the culprits......from the wheal jane transit site. Theres a surprise.

That'll be our 'friends' from St Day again then.

Wow that is orgasmic!!

been running used chip fat from the back of restaurants and chippies for years, with no problems. The 200s dont always like it, but usually its just a bit of old beefburger blocking up the tank pick up. Given the saving financially, envorinmentally and to my health too, its a no brainer. Its usually free too

for the age you are looking at I wouldnt even entertain jap crap- you will probably have the same issues as a disco of the same age, but instead of a recon transfer box being £600 fitted, it will be more than £2k fitted.......the jap stuff is very reliable up to a point, but in heavy heavy abusive work, they are no more reliable than the green oval, and nowhere near as tough in my experience of owning both. We all know nick hates the green oval BTW hahaha

935I VERMEER be of any interest to you? Well within budget?

Thanks for all your kind words. The brindle dog seen in south zeal was the first one that he got back, one stayed with the truck, and two are still missing. My mate has had loads of reports of sightings, but at 1 am today they actually saw them run out in front of their car, but the two dogs were so freaked out they just ran.
The other lorry driver was a UK, local-ish based driver, who apparently is already under investigation for another similar incident in the not too distant past. Apparently when he rear ended my mate, he made my mates truck do a front somersault according to a witness!!! He had to go back to hospital due to the injury to his back, but is out again now.
