  1. Peter, I have looked on the Samson website and agree that the instructions for splicing a whoopie sling are simple. However, it uses 'Fid' as a unit of measure, what does this refer to (i have never accross this beofre)? I assume it is related to diameter but am not sure. Cheers
  2. Slightly off topic, but has anyone got a photo of the living tree bridge in Cambodia. It was on 'How The Earth Made Us' (BBC 2 last week). I can't find a pictures but it was awesome, certainly worth putting on here.
  3. It is probably what you want to do and what he deserves! But de-escalation is your best course of action. After all you don't want to waste to much time and energy on him, i'm sure you have much better things to be doing.
  4. What he said:thumbup1: Whatever happened to the law of the prudent man (i think)? IE if I dig a hole and you fall it, its your own fault for being stupid or drunk. Now i have to put up signs, barriers etc portaloos (because we can't be trused to find a decent hedge/tree)- by the time i've done that i could have filled in the hole and be in the pub laugh about the idiot who fell in the hole!.
  5. Matt, really sorry to hear that. But as far as i can see you've done nothing wrong. If i was you i would try and give him the info he wants to the best of your ability, take note of the good advice above. But when you do give him the recipts make sure it is clear that are doing so as you have gained a lot of experince (i hope he has passed lloads of bad drills), not because of his threats - i have no time threats. But also try not loose your rag or more importantly back down. If it looks like you're about to done over, inform the police- i don't know how old you are, but if your under 18, he could be properly turned over. Good luck, chin up, it won't be long until you can have a beer and a good giggle over this!

    Awesome engine

Babt sitting the little one tonight - Just watched that Ha ha Ha Both in tears, him from the shock me at him lol
  7. I agree with BBB about best practice. However, best practice doesn't always result in what the customer wants, so you end up with common (ish)practice, ie too much topping - bad aesthetics and bad for the tree. But we all need to get paid, so if can't persued the customer, off comes the top! and in comes the ££s:001_smile: After all money talks, in most cases i'd rather it talks to me!
  8. Ha ha , Sure will, but won't be until the end of the month. I shall brace myself... BBB, unfortunately the lie of the ground won't open up the views, so it to be lowered. Is there any thing that you can do to reduce the chances of DED taking hold?
  9. This is all really interesting, thanks guys learning loads. At the end of the day if the work is classed as 'topping' or 'pollarding, it will probably live and look strange until it fills out... Then i will need to visit again. Ok with me!
  10. Yeah, pretty much a pollard. You're right, i think that it will look terrible as well, and have told the customer, but they want the view down the valley. I think that, they should choose between the view and the tree. Cheers
  11. Oh, I forgot to mention the tree is a bout 12m tall. Cheers
  12. Hi, A question for the more experienced than me: I have been asked to reduce a hybrid elm to about 50% of its hieght! almost all of it crown:confused1: The tree is in good health with no damage or fungus etc. Will it survive shuch a dramatic pruning? I have told the customer that there is a good chance the tree won't last, but would get some second opinions, it is a nice tree so i would rather not kill it. Really sorry no pictures: i left my camera behind. I suppose if it doesn't last, i will back next year:lol: Cheers
  13. David, Thanks, i might call them tomorrow. I am base in the South West - i will update my profile now!
  14. Hi, Does anybody know where i can get a new circular saw blade, something like about 800mm. I can only find 300mm ones:confused1: Many thanks
  15. I'm afraid the MOD contracts are very difficult to get into, mainly because of the capacity thats required by the MOD eg, JV Strong have the contract in the Salisbury Plain area. And once they have the contract, it will be nightmare to get it off them, for the obvious reasons. LANDMAR et al do have large facilities management contracts with MOD establishment, but they contract out for specialised skills such as arb. My view, many peopl on here would have done well in the Army. So if you want to join, it's your choice, not your parents. Granted they have to wait at home. From my experienc on recent ops it is very exicting, frightening and it gets harder the longer you do it. But the down side... well i assume you have seen Black Hawk Down, Full Metal Jacket etc, they don't let you know what feels like putting your mate in a bag. That dosen't mean don't do it - if you do it will give you best times of your life!
  16. I got the saw running properly today, by cleaning the carb with carb cleaner. So i will see what happens next week. I will get my to phone STihl with the serial number and see what they say - if they won't change it i might replace it anyway, as it is a real PITA! Thanks for all the advice, lads.
  17. I have found a 020 carb, i assume from what i've read on here that it will fitt straight on without any porblems. Is this true?
  18. Was the repair expensive? And did you have any work done on the carb at all?
  19. Chainsawdom, did your saw have good compresion?
  20. Yep, sounds familier. Is the new carb any better? Or will i have to find a 020 carb?
  21. Hi, I have seen all the other threads relating the poor running (carbs) on MS200Ts and would like some advice from those have manage to fix their saws. Mine starts without too many porblems but is really difficult to get it to rev out - it often cuts out as if it is not getting fuel or bogs down then dies. However, once i coax it up to max chat - useually by blipping the throttle it holds revs well and is not short of power, but once the throttle is release it tickes over for a few seconds and then dies. It has a new plug and air filtter and the fuel filtter looks pretty good. It a 2007 model and doesn't get that much use. This happened 2 weeks ago and i assumed that the carb had gummed up and all was well after blowing some carb cleaner through the carb. But exactly the same occured again today after a 2 week break!!! Sound familier to anyone? Any advice (I can't afford a new one) Also where is carb model number on the carb- i have heard all the issues with the D types. Thanks in advance.
  22. Tommer9, My new log splitter screw arrived in the week - it looks pretty good, although smaller than the orginal. There is no removalable tip but at the price i'm not complaining - i can always sharpen it with an angle grinder if required. There is another one ebay (£59) at the link below (if my IT skills allow). Over all i am happy with it. Try: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Screw-type-log-splitter-hardened-all-hole-diameters_W0QQitemZ290304679400QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_BOI_FarmingEquipment_RL?hash=item290304679400&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 If this does work it it item number: 290304679400
  23. Cheers lads, I have taken the clutch and plate off to inspect and clean the pump and hoses etc, all look to be ok - i used light gear oil to see if there was any leaks with the pump removed and it looked ok. Although it really needed a clean. I have put i back together with some light gear oil still in the tank and ran it again. Hard to tell if it is fixed or not as the gear oil is so thin - only time will tell but it certainly seemed better... But i will check the pick up pipe as well as i haven't checked that. Hoping that it was only some dirt that had lifted the seal inboard of the pump . Bob, i might PM for some spares if thats ok.
  24. Unlike most of the recent saw posts on here my 357xp (which is running well otherwise) is feeding too much oil on to the guide bar. It empties the oil tank in the time it use half a tank of fuel, you can see the oil flying off the end of bar in a heavy spray - it also covers the exhaust making it smoke:thumbdown:. I haven't started to look at it yet, but suspect a knackered seal or pipe as if the pump was gone it most likely get no oil. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Cheers
  25. I had the same problem and found one on ebay for £69 + postage (£15) from poland! The bloke will make the copne to fit your splitter. It is a single piece cone so i am not sure how long it will last. I am expecting it to arrive soon and will let you know what it is like when i get hold of it. I will also try and put a link on here later if you want.
