Nice work, sad to see what must once have been a pretty grand tree end up in such a state, great to see it being used for habitat tho, something which isn't done enough in my opinion!
Where abouts is the tree? Country park type setting?

Chinchilla? Barn(garage) owl? Garage owl is a mate of R'n'B weasel by the way, some well avante garde beats they produce! Listen out for there guest appearance on the new Akon album, absolute toure de force!

Sounds like a decent setup, always loved the blakes, loved that it just felt bombproof reliable. Would try it but i've fallen in love with my lockjack!
Did you ever get that pic?

i use water to get the sap etc off, then use a bycycle disc brake cleaner(neat alcohol) to dissinfect it.
I was taught on my rfs that there is potential for us to become a vector in the transport of disease, and was told what i'm doing is a good way to help prevent that. Obviously dragging yourself?harness?ropes over diseased tissue carries a risk of transporting disease, but dissinfecting ppe is obviously a bit more of a hassle.

Mountain Bikes | Road Bikes | Cycle Clothing & Accessories Wiggle handy site for all things bike related! Set up a tv/dvd in front of it aswell, it does get rather tedious i found, good workout tho!

Hi, just wondering if anyone can give me a chapter and verse on when and what diameter a root exclusion zone should be, and what, if any, ground work is permitted in said zone?
Cheers.

I dont want to pollard them, my dad does, part of the reason for my asking on here was to get a few people to say what a bad idea it would be, as my dad doesn't realy trust my judgment!
Im certainly more of the reduction/clean school of thought.
Unfortunately the camera is on strike at the mo, just think 50ft, realy untidy lots of deadwood and a fair bit of epi'.(realy cant wait to get up there with all those spikes).
Does anyone know if Robinia is particularly vulnerable to any fungal infections? I read it's got a decent resistance to Armillaria.

They havn't been pollarded before, maybe a daaaaam good clean out then and hope for the best, must admit i only asked about pollarding as my father likes the idea, i on the other hand, am not so keen on the look of a pollarded tree at the best of times, even less so when i have to look out of my bedroom window at the offending specimen! God knows how old they are tho, cant remmember when the species was first introduced?!
Smells lovely when it's burning tho, hmmm i feel another ground level prune coming on!!! mwahaha:sneaky2:
cheers for all the advice guys!

Hi 2 all of you, this is my first post on this fine website!
Just wondered if anyone could let me know how well False acacia responds to pollarding/pruning? And how long a Robinia is likely to live(yes i know it'll be a ball park figure but any idea would be appreciated).
Asking as i have a couple of big'ns in me garden(50ft plus) which i want to try to tidy up, i've only worked on one before and that was a ground level prune.
Any help is helpful.
cheers.

Even better then! I work for a country estate in Norfolk and we try where possible to use trees, which would otherwise have been felled, as bat and bird habitat.
