Fuel and equipment by far
fuel price at the pump not helping...:mad1:
if stihl, husky and other brands of tools put their prices up as much as the petrol companies... dread to think what would happen to people

I've brought a number of ex council (3-5 years old)Stihl FS410s and use them only with shredding blades. they do the job for me and still going 2 years down the line.
Not to sure what work they did with the council but they are worked hard throughout the year for me but get plenty of TLC regularly.
I like Stihl so slightly bias:001_smile:

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have been asked to look at a job for a hedge clearance and anything found inside it down to ground level. grub out any old root stumps and leave living rhododendron stems at 1 metre in height
There is no need for waste removal as it can be burnt on site by owner
The hedge it self ranges from 2 to 4 metres at the base and is over 2.4 metres in most areas and is approximately 45 metres in length.
The hedge appears to be mostly very old bramble, a small pyracantha shrub hedge of 15 metres long by 75cms high at one end. there also seems to be large spreads of very well established rhododendron, these poke out above the top and the sides of the hedge.
The hedge has also grown through a chain link fence, which is located on one side. this requires to be cleared with minimal damage if possible.
Due to the location and access this will be by manpower only, myself plus two.
I have a work day planned of 8 hrs less travel (1hr each way) and lunch break (30 mins).
I have long reaches, trimmers and chainsaws for the job.
I would like a advice on the possible costing and duration
£152-00 additional labour per day
£50-00 OHs (fuel, Ins, etc) per day
plus pay for myself.
I understand my costings and for a 5 day week over £1000-00 less profit and my pay before we start. The land owner has an unknown budget, cheaper the better but to a good standard
I would like to get it done in a week if possible.
Any advice welcome on additional costing for the job and duration would be greatly appreciated. this is a first of this size for me so be gentle:thumbup:

Ladies Gents
Hopefully someone will be able to help, I am after the contact details of the Tree Officer for the Finchfield area of Wolverhampton.
I am trying to get more information on a 50 + year old Oak for a client. TPO's & Conservation area restrictions etc
I am located in Taunton so this is out of area for me.
Please feel free to PM me
Many thanks

Kentjames That looks really impressive, was it hand made by you or, without being rude, brought in pack form, either way a nice job

I use Toro, self propelled, a good general use (mulching) mower, a tank of fuel lasts for ages. main problem I have is the drive can fail, turning it into an expensive push mower.
would be interested to know if anyone else has same problem

Hi mate,
yes the disc would be quicker and alot cheaper than a website, in both time and cost, good idea though.
I use a folder/archive and pick the phot i want to send relevant to application showing before, during and after

Hi Mate
I would go with abit of what both RobArb & HCR have said.
Have a website with photos of your work or a folder that you can email. Hardcopies in a presentation file for interview.
The photos sent via post, would have to be of a good quality, if not it will make your work look rough. So I would look at emailing the pictures let them descide if they want to print after looking at them, need to watch the happy snaps
All the best with what you are doing

Agree with that Top Man

Best wishes and good luck to those looking in this noble craft

Thanks niftysteve,
I was hoping it was something like that, so can I put the full cost against my expenses this year then work on the depreciation for next year according to the HMRC rates for this type of asset
Regards
Rob H

Hi Ladies & Gents
I have a question about how deprication works, what is involved as far as saws, chippers, lawn mowers and stump grinders go. All of the equipment purchased from new.
Can you put the whole purchase cost against your expenses then next year put what ever the HMRC rate of depreciation against next year, then repeat each of the following years untill the item has run out of years (say five years) or is it something completely different and I have got the wrong end of the stick..?
Thanks for any advice
Rob H

I cut 42 kilometres of public footpaths and bridleways for our local parish council, i dont cut hedges just the grass. I use a Kubota and flail with a FS400 for the areas the tractor cant get.
I have to do 3 cuts per year, as a rough guide to cut all 42 kilometres takes me 5 days approx @ £250.00 per day (£250 x 5 = £1,250.00) - £1,250.00 divided by 42 = £29.76 Per Kilometer
Like i say thats for grass not hedges, hope that helps
mate
42km = 26.04 miles x 3 = 126 km 78.12 miles / 15 days = 8.4 km 5.208 miles per day
is that one man or two and clearance of cuttings, just trying to understand the machanics of pricing.
regards
Rob Hornett

Just the odd branch or two .It was an add on i leave the treework to you guys to get the job done properly . ATB Roy
yep i would have to say the same, not within my skill set or at my age do i want to be hauling my bod up a tree...theres some good food for thought in these posts

I disagree with rupe on this, a gardener mate of mine was strimming last year and a stone kicked up and hit a passer by in the face, the case went to court and even luckily my Mates public liability insurance dealt with the outcome. Even if you do the odd job for yourself and contract for others then some form of P/L is for peace of mind, in today's society of where there is blame there is a claim then how can people afford not to have insurance.
yes i was thinking of such a mishap, its more for peace of mind for both my customers and for me should that stone flicked up by the strimmer bounce off and smash a window and smack a passer by. probably not a good advert for my skills but just and example..
thanks for the advice though Gents
