Hi Chaps.
Wondering if anyone was willing to offer a bit of advice to a newby?
Completely new to the arb industry at the 'young' age of 30, and am looking for an 'entry level' chainsaw to buy afer Christmas.
Been recommended Stihl MS260 from a farmer mate of mine, but has anyone got any suggestions that I could consider.
Not quite decided what where I want to be in the business just yet, so something that is all round insofar as power/weight/durability would be ideal. From reading these forums it seems everyone has their favourites, but I would be hugely grateful for any advice anyone can offer.
Also, does anyone know if Arb students can get discounts at suppliers generally? Studying for my degree, so cash aint exactly what you would call free flowing right now.
Thanks for reading.

The cost of NPTC courses is a bit steep I agree. I'm funding everything out of my back pocket including my arb degree, but hopefully it will all be worth it in the end... he says!!!

That's really good to know. A lot of people were disausive of such a qualification to me saying it's entirely inappropriate for the industry but clearly that's not the be all and end all. I'm really enjoying the science led approach towards the subject and feel there is a lot of ground that hasn't been covered to the nth degree like in other subjects [Merispilus Network for example].
Where do you see your degree ideally taking you? I haven't really settled on a specific goal as such for myself but would like to enter some sort of eco-arb consultancy partnership perhaps [without being too tree-hugger about it].
Well for me, i'm a total career changer looking at going into amenity arb/planning etc.. Not ruling anything out though. Totally agree with you about the science element though. Interesting stuff.
