  1. Just testing it out felling a twin stemmed Birch. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIITkO75pas]YouTube - Eastside Birch[/ame]
  2. Ditto all above. There is a definate knack to setting the toggle lever so the cable will run, and I still find it hard work when I'm knackered from winching!
  3. Pulled over this Birch (20 foot of top removed so it would fit in) using my new 13 stone winch. Cost me about £500 from KFC and The Bird in Bush, Elsdon, Northumberland. Reg Coates eat your heart out![ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksPIRVOyBUo]YouTube - Eastside Birch2[/ame]
  4. When I get in guys like Rich and Ross Smith to climb for me on larger jobs, I would class them as labour only subcontractors. I will check with my accountants if this is correct. Like Rupe, I don't believe they are bona-fide subcontractors.
  5. That chancer does not possess my moves! Great find.
  6. Christ there is some negativity floating around tonight! Not recognising that is genius and saying he didn't do it properly is a bit like saying Muhamad Ali was a poor boxer because he held his hands too low. I have looked for a vid of 'most careful and precise chain change, including all relevant checks', but so far I have struggled to find one.
  7. Ha ha. Our names are Tiffany and Stacey. We are voluptuous blonde twins who work in the adult entertainment industry. What a laugh we've had winding up you dumb wood-cutters for the last couple of years!
  8. Airstreams are mint with spikes. Hope you did a full risk assessment for that Rob.
  9. I wish I'd done a year or two abroad. One advantage being that our big, scary trees would seem like toothpicks. And the sex.....
  10. As above, accumulation of crap in the roller slides. Take off cover, undo springs, lift roller block (make sure it is secured in upright position), good clean, grease up, drop block back down, WD40 on springs, back on, cover back on, good to go-go. £220 + VAT please.
  11. A bloke round here is advertising a 'lorry load' for £95. Wonder if it's a 40 tonner?
  12. Used to have an Acme Thunderer on my harness, but lost it in a conny recently. Can whistle loud using my fingers, but that won't work if I have cut my hand off.... Useful for getting groundies attention. And if I spot anyone offside, obviously.
  13. The 125 sounds ideal for you. I love mine. Good enough to overload my Transit in about 25 minutes! Admittedly with a bit more snedding time than for the 150, but with sharp blades it isn't that much slower. Good tip about the exhaust. At 575kgs I can push it around off the hitch on my own a lot easier than a 150, which makes a difference at the end of a big day.
  14. Loved these vids Daniel. Bought it home to me whilst felling a Sycamore yesterday that was the size of some of the limbs being rigged out. I can't see how people don't recognise just how good a climber Pat Epps is (bad habits aside!). I've seldom seen a climber look so fluid and comfortable in 100'+ trees. Great tip re the tuppaware box for keeping the tails of the lines tidy. I'll be nicking that one. Thanks.
  15. Serious issue, this. We quite often get asked at the start of a job 'Do you need electricity?' 'Only for the kettle!' with a cheeky wink usually makes for a nice day. Has anyone else noticed that even a crappy job in harsh weather becomes OK if a kind customer is supplying fresh, hot, strong brews at timely intervals?
  16. Cracking Justin. Gotta love that Crazy Dave......
  17. Gutted for you mate. I can't imagine life without my lab now. I even got tearful reading Marley and Me. As others have said, you can love a new dog (and I would), but never truly replace a lost friend. RIP Sky.
  18. You're on. £50/tonne OK? I take cash.
  19. Dave, all the best for a good recovery. I would say stay positive, but I can see there's no need! Only found out last night, been up north. The most powerful computer at my folks house is the clock on the cooker. I believe Masterblaster was caught by a stump grinder once, on his calf? Remember seeing some gory pic, not as bad as yours sounds, mind, but he may have some advice. Hope any future ops go ok. Beer up somewhere when you get out. All the best mate.
  20. I love the smell of brushwood in the morning....
  21. Up in the sticks on my mates computer. Great truck Simon! Good work Josh. I wish I had nicked you for the week. Just stunt-felled an Ash onto my Mams favourite plant pot. Bugger.
  22. Proper country! Are you getting to keep the wood?
  23. Scary stuff! Where was it Lorry? I'm at my Dads near Otterburn this week.
