  1. You little tinker! Right ballpark for me here Dave.
  2. You won't be doing it for long then.
  3. Some of you may have seen a thread I put up a couple of weeks back of a storm damaged Cypress we did, which had dropped a limb onto the roof of The Mermaid Inn, in Rye, East Sussex. Stevo met the manager tonight at some event and she had a fairly freaky story. The old owner of the house next door (where the tree was situated), who had planted the tree many years ago, died in his bed the very same afternoon the limb decided to fall! We are booked to remove the rest of it next week. Think I'll give it a little hug before I climb.....
  4. Check out spreadshirt.com Awesome quality hoodies, hammered them and still look great. Just about to order some more to rotate when wet! Very easy to personalise, change print size/type etc., and great service.
  5. I meant reception can only be improved by the Orange/T-Mobile merger Dave. The O2 getting worse thing is a different issue. I knew when I typed it it didn't read very well.
  6. Terrible news. What an awful tragedy.
  7. Feeding the new chipper today. Awesome 15mm capacity. 240 hp (think it was hp). If you look carefully you can see the new Stein mini-arbor trolley we used to run the cordwood. Luckily I found an extra crisp packet in the cab, as all the chip was being bagged. 3 of us smashed through the job with this kind of kit on site, but I'm glad VOSA didn't give us a tug on the way home. They might easily have confiscated our cycling proficiency badges.
  8. MS180 will probably be plenty for you with your 11-stone target physique Mr. Bell.
  9. They are scum, and the sooner this practice is stamped out the better. Workshy, thieving, bent, moneygrabbing scum. That is MY tax money being spent on firms who might not be best for the job, but who are prepared to give the greatest 'gift'. Grenadier, sorry for earlier, but this kind of thing makes me puke, government or big outfit.
  10. Loved the vid, would have hated the job! Lines give me the hejeebies, even turned off. Good stuff, climbing and grounding.
  11. It's a celebration. It's the type of thing that makes the rest of the world jealous. I will be doing special 'Royal Wedding' rates for tree services for a couple of weeks either side of the big event. Probably about 50% more than usual so we can party, but I will give out a small paper Union Jack to every customer. Rule Britannia!
  12. Petzl swivel here. Some hate them. I get on alright with mine. I hardly throw myself around the tree, mind.....
  13. This interests me because many moons ago I used to do surveys for T-Mobile transmitters. Reception can only be improved. I hope we end up on the continental system where your phone locks on to the strongest signal available from any network. O2 traditionally had the best coverage, but I feel this is now getting worse, not better. Nowt like resting on your laurels!
  14. Reggae Reggae Tree Surgery. Rasta hats and Jamaica flag colured truck and chipper. Noone would EVER forget you....
  15. Genuine undercutting is annoying, and ends up with noone winning (apart from the customer!) £425 for 3 men for a day seems cheap to me, but perhaps this other bloke is mustard and sees it as half a day for 2 men, in which case his price seems nearer the mark? More likely he's dropped a bollock, and will be cursing himself before the end of the job! Either way, suck it up and move on. Keep your standards (and prices) high. As said recently in a different thread, loads of companies spring up in this game, get loads of work by being dirt cheap, then disappear quickly when all their gear is knackered and they can't afford to replace it.
  16. Know what you're saying my man, but at over £150 a pop they are worth looking after. Meindl Airstreams looking the nuts after coming up a year. Cleaned and Dubbined twice. Why am I on a tree cutters website at 01.23 talking about putting protective products on my overpriced work boots? At least I have a Stella in my hand.... Goodnight.
  17. Ha ha. Make sure it's a liquid one mate. You deserve it.
  18. Utter pish. You are one of my best mates on Arbtalk. Lets look at our first meeting. 1) Late - delayed on M1 with Deano etc. 2) you cadged a lift 3) Dishevelled appearance after a 15 hour journey.... You made a good impression from then on mate, but it shows that you can't always apply rigid rules. Yours, Mark Bolam Somewhat surprisingly BEng (hons) From a proper University (Sheffield) Before Polytechnics all became Universities as well and watered down my achievement.
  19. Bjam thanks for such an honest post, and Leyburn Lad for taking the time to share your story. You may well have saved someones life between you, if people take heed of this thread. I won't recommend any certain cut because every tree has different lean/ground/weight/condition etc. The only thing I can usefully add is that I have found Ash much more brittle (and therefore susceptible to sudden fracture and BC'ing) when it is very cold (freezing or just above). Take care fellas. Let's all go home at night. Good thread.
  20. Spend the £1500 wisely mate....
  21. Nice one! That Jonnos got some throwbag arm on him bro!
  22. Nice one mate. I've sent you an ice cold pint of Peroni. If you suck your USB port you should feel it coming slowly but surely.... Ballsy, but well thought stuff fella. Enjoyed the thread.
  23. Good luck with it mate. Virtual beers tonight!
