Do they do a scrotum mount Ady? Josh was asking....
  2. Anything other than Gransfors is second best. The maul is the daddy, but the large splitting axe is lighter and faster for straighter grained stuff. Yes, they are expensive, but you can see why when you get one. They are actually cheap for something that looks this good, comes with a 20-year guarantee, and will pay for itself with the first load of logs. Come on Arbtalk suppliers - one of you at least should consider stocking them. You would clean up! Anyone recommending cheapo stuff from tool shops sounds like the fat bloke in the pub trying to convince you that his shiny new Spear and Jackson chainsaw is actually much better than your 361/357. There are other makes out there that do the job OK, but they just aren't in the same league.
  3. Agreed. However, we've done trees with 40'+ regrowth on 20' poles, so this isn't always possible. Had some disco-leg moments up untouched ones as well mind!
  4. Don't know really Tone, they just make me feel uneasy. Had a few failures when rigging, nearly always on badly maintained regrowth. Probably just an irrational mental thing, but always been a bogey tree for me.
  5. You've got to sympathise. Hate it when people leave the washing out then complain about a bit of sawdust.
  6. Big tree Tom. Hope you got to keep all the wood after all that!
  7. Mint. One of the best finds of the year Ady.
  8. Nearly mate, but we decked them both, sned them out and left to go pricing and knocking out log orders. Nice to drop back on later in the week when the weather turns again. Priced the smaller one as a (semi) dismantle, but I've got a bit of a phobia about rigging Lombardys, and it was nice to get a day ahead on the job. Lovely day with no wind helped.
  9. Not bad. Reckon he would have been a bit quicker if he had a decent beard.
  10. Lombardy felling today (insurance co. insisted, house is cracking). This 80-footer, and a smaller one further to the right. Both leaning back slightly. Not having a Matador on hand like John Hancock in his thread, I used Polish Steve 'Woodnuts' on the pull line*. Both came over sweet. * with a Tirfor
  11. Dubbin on mine mate. Heard since it can degrade the stitching (?), but they are faultless after a year. Nik-Wax might be a better choice.
  12. Good shots Simon. Think I remember that job - in the pub by 3?
  13. Great stuff Ian, a bit different. I won't even have a whinge about rigging in a wood! Loved the camera flying up near the start.
  14. How much pulling did they need John? I've got 2 Lombardys to fell this week and think they will both go with the Tirfor on them. Or it could be a very expensive week....
  15. Nice try Adam, but the snowy Cedar Big Top wins for me. How are the ankles bro? Good to have you back.
  16. Is that the one you ate before doing your Muay Thai training in Bangkok that year?
  17. Daniel, the felling technique is still a bit too much for my Northern English brain, but I enjoyed the work preceding it. Some big lumps rigged down there mate. Was that you and Pat Epps? Also thought the lumps 'ran' pretty well. Some of you purists should try working with me on the ground.....
  18. BIG Plane bro. Smooth as.
  19. On the plus side, I did get some nice socks.
  20. Thanks fellas. I feel every single second of it this morning, I can tell you.
  21. Peckerwoo, great stuff mate. Totally agree on your take of the Global Warming issue. Now to business. Please define 'White Christmas' the way the bookies see it, and give us your odds. I know you said hang fire, but its Baltic down here in Kent, and my Dad and Mam are still snowed in up near Otterburn. Great input mate.
  22. Have none of you lads ever been to France? This was the A-Team in action from what I've seen over there! Reg, I too was baffled by the footlocking. The lad obviously doesn't smoke enough Gitanes! Cringed with the way they were slinging the saw. Cut knuckles waiting to happen. Also, letting lumps that big catch tight on the rigging is dangerous for the groundie. He would have to remove my boot from his rectum at his own expense. Loved watching it all though. Their Gallic confidence shines through, and it would be pretty boring if we all did it right, eh?
