  1. A hearse is crap offroad mate.
  2. Know what you're saying mate, but I don't think crane jobs leave a lot of room for error. You could work with a crane-savvy climber for a day, learn loads, need one less groundie (and wage), and run the show from the ground yourself. Probably cost you less than £150. Good luck with it, whatever. Let us know how you get on.
  3. Trees have their place in the city Tone. It's just outside of it.... For the record, I would pollard it. The fell and not replant comment was tongue in cheek. I just don't think a tree with a mature height of 30m+ has any place in an urban garden. Us arbs seem to love hacking back nature to line our pockets. I don't. I get Rich and Ross in to do it for me!
  4. I'm going to stick up a picture of a dog turd in a minute and ask how you would all deal with it.
  5. You can't be that far from Reg Coates, mate. I would try and hire him for the day in your situation. You will learn more from watching Reg for a day than spending years asking questions on a computer. Check out some of his vids.
  6. Hats off to the whole team on this one Paul. Really, really well done.
  7. When you get older, you realise what is worth spending money on and where you can get away with just buying the cheapest you can. Knowing the difference is an expensive process called 'experience'.
  8. Fell. Don't replant. Idiots like this don't deserve to have a tree in their garden. They were obviously happy the first time it was mutilated.
  9. True guys, but I was more thinking of work-related, which, lets face it, is the most likely way you would be injured. God knows what the delay for any payment would be, as you have pointed out. Stay safe!
  10. You would be covered legally by their EL insurance.
  11. I love the last shot! Groundies nightmare job, hope you charged top dollar!
  12. I'm with the Hama on this one. I really enjoy thinning, nice clamber round a tree with a Silky, and a pleasing effect at the end. However, the practice is better for the arb than the tree! I wince slightly when I revisit some of my early thins. Also, Beech favours a dense canopy, and doesn't seem to react well to too much sunlight getting through to the bark in the summer, so go easy!
  13. I don't get it. You could buy a decent LD with the money from one job, easily.
  14. That seventh pint went down smooth. Good pressure in an average game I thought.
  15. This thread represents everything that is wrong in treework today.
  16. Nice. Your groundie must have long arms to reach that Hobbs!
  17. You can vertical load on pretty skinny stuff, but lateral loading on crack willows requires a chunkier TIP. I use my waist size as a rule of thumb these days....
  18. Bit out of your manor isn't it Biggun? See any hotties? Very sensitive work BTW. I'll try and sell that to some of my agricultural clients in Kent! Should look mint in leaf.
  19. I'm not being funny Flash, but I have just realised how sad my life has become by participating in your thread. I used to go clubbing on Thursday nights, drink loads, dance, get into mischief, accept blow-jobs in carparks, eat kebabs etc. Now this. I don't see a problem using biological powder, BTW.
  20. If you don't spin them you have to take a week off while they dry!
  21. Sorry mate, I read that as 'Arabnet' and nearly spat my wine out! I was visualising an advert for John Shutler Tree Services on Al Jazeera! Never heard of it/them.
