  1. I think it also depends hugely on what type of setup you run.
  2. It's human nature Bob. They'll probably log onto their superfast broadband to send a stiff email to the council about the damage to the trees. Years ago I used to do surveys to site mobile phone masts. People would regularly get irate and rattle on about ringing the council to complain, and pull a mobile out of their pocket.
  3. I wish they were as cheap as that Stu....
  4. My acceptance rate on recommendation is pretty high, which I'm happy with. My acceptance rate with new customers fluctuates wildy with how much work we have booked in and how many new pairs of boots the wife has bought recently.
  5. I wasn't sure if I'd gone too small with a 7T petrol, but I was after portability and a reasonably quick ram stroke. Not much it's failed on if you know your timber, sometimes have to bust edges off with the tip of the wedge on gnarly stuff. Weirdly it's great on longer stuff. Special order cut at 20" last week and it whizzed through it. The advantage I can see with 40T is that if it wouldn't split it it would pretty much cut through it. I bet some twisted bits would come apart a bit lively though!
  6. It's a tough one. I was up round Greenwich/Woolwich/Eltham the other week and the amount of work on street trees was mind-blowing. Mainly semi-mature Planes, just tonked again and again. The cost of keeping 100'+ (at maturity) trees down to 40' must be staggering. The TM alone must be a nightmare. I appreciate it keeps plenty of lads in work, but it's all got to be paid for. Dwarf cherries all round would be pretty bad though. I went to Uni in Sheffield, and the leafy streets really made the place. I hope a suitable compromise can be reached. Tree removal is normally a dirt cheap option compared to groundworks and engineering solutions, though, so it is pretty worrying.
  7. I was just going to say Sugoi. You can cut small bits with a big Silky but it doesn't work too well the other way round. As said the bigger teeth leaving a more ragged finish won't concern you. Treat it with the same respect you would a chainsaw, they can bite!
  8. Cortisone jab worked for me, and I had to change loads of different things that would set it off. Log splitting by hand was particularly bad for it. Some good threads on this already on the forum. Hit Search. Don't ignore it, it will get worse.
  9. Some really helpful stuff here fellas, thanks. AHPP I'm still chuckling at your comment!
  10. Aye, won't know till I wake up I suppose.
  11. Yes mate, I have kids at home as well...
  12. I think the recovery time from the basic op is pretty good, but it's the micro-fracture thing I'm a bit wary of.
  13. Thanks mate. I've been quite lucky after fannying around for two months with a GP and a physio saying it would get better. Paid for an MRI in the end and should have the op within a month.
  14. Back in November I managed to crunch my kneecap up a conny. Turns out I've bust bits out the front and back of the patella and snapped 8mm off my femur. All the bits are floating around. It's now getting painful just walking the dog. I'm booked in for an arthroscopy, possibly including micro-fracture to try and repair the damage. Has anyone had similar, and what would be a realistic recovery time? Any tips on pre-op exercise also appreciated. Thanks.
  15. You can if you like the colour brown.
  16. To be fair mate my post came across a bit harshly. What I was getting it is that the dark art of firelighting is best learnt on site, preferably under the supervision of someone with a massive beard. It's hard to pick it up from a computer .
  17. Threads like this really piss me off. If you don't know how to start a fire you shouldn't be trying to do it commercially. And those that do shouldn't be giving advice.
  18. Rich the ZZ is rated for big lads in a ddrt configuration? So 12-stoners like Matty and me should be ok?
  19. It wasn't pretty Richie was it? Effective, though, against a good Scottish team. Fair play to them. Farrell cracks me up, the angry little (although he'd dwarf most of us!) little man always fancying a bit of bother. Reminds me of me when I was 19, before my brain began to develop. Italy were great, it's so good for this competition how far they've progressed from whipping boys. Playing tidy stuff as well.
  20. Ian that statement is pretty contradictory!
  21. Too close to call at the minute.
