  1. My labs best mate was a Rotty, sadly she died at only 7 from cancer. One of the sweetest dogs I've ever known. I was surprised my mate wanted one, because I'd listened to too much ignorant bullshit about them, but that changed the day I met her. On the tail thing, Tia was terrified of water, and I could see why when she tried to swim. Best left I reckon. Dutchie is a working dog, and has a massive tail. It's been battered and bloodied a few times on big days, but I'm pretty sure she's happier with it. Back to the pop thing, I milled a few planks and beams years ago when I first bought my Alaskan from Rob, just practicing on low quality stuff, really. Some of those pieces are still doing service on various structures at my yard, probably 10 years on. It is pretty featureless, but I'm not asking it out for a drink.
  2. Donaghys Cougar mate. Blue, Orange or Puke. Great in both applications.
  3. Jomoco, do you think that to an extent people are choosing Cobra because it's faster and easier to install, and certainly less fatiguing than steel, rather than looking at the problem and choosing the best system available? Let's move away from the fire-risk thing here, I'm talking UK specific.
  4. Good find, but some of the old steel bracing I've removed on takedowns has been far from small. One old holm oak we did had huge steel collars with big chains supporting laterals, installed decades ago. I think there's s place for both systems.
  5. Would steel bracing not attract lightning strikes?😧
  6. Wow! I'm guessing that was around when Jesus was a lad?
  7. Good call. Get the grit out so it doesn't blunt the big saw.
  8. They're probably too busy worrying about more likely scenarios, like being eaten by a shark.
  9. Has anyone ever rescued a non-arb from a tree?
  10. Yes, the lad is a bit of a helmet, but he's only encouraging people to do what we did when we were kids, and seemed fairly responsible about damage etc. Surely kids are better off climbing trees, keeping fit and learning about risk than festering away on their Xstations.
  11. I can only offer my humble apologies to the tree Gods mate!
  12. As Montgomery said to Patton, 'My dear man, Britain was winning wars for centuries while America was still inhabited by naked savages." I don't want to spoil it for you J, in case you find some way of watching it, but the leaves fall off in the end.
  13. My tuppence worth is with dead trees I normally spike up them rather than bag a line in. That way you can get a feel on the up. Any weight you can lose during the ascent is a bonus. As Mick says, Reg's vid is worth a look, although he's dealing with extreme cases. Cause of death and fungal activity play a massive part on how shot the tree will be. Just Google Graham McMahon Tahune Airwalk the night before you do it Timon. Most takedowns are pretty easy after watching that.
  14. I snapped this pic of Timon on his way to bingo yesterday.
  15. Mad skills Jesse. The Pantin thing is golden. What was your wife saying to you at the end?
  16. Back in the 80's someone nicked the bling hub caps off my brothers 'pretend' XR2i. Next day they were propped up against it with a note saying 'Sorry, but they didn't f'ing fit.' I always chuckle about that, but I agree with Stevie, thieves are still thieves, however polite they are.
  17. Traversing between trees means not having to come down for a brew between each tree. It's a really bad idea.
