Voice your concerns to him if he is a decent manager/boss he will take your concerns as constructive if not, just dont do it if you dont feel confident, there will be plenty more trees to cut. What job is he on? swap with him and let him do the 50% CR ( too much ) And yes its his name on the van but its your body that goes in the ground if you make a mistake through lack of confidence/experience. only my opinion but i would never send someone in the air if they voiced the concerns you posted, unless i was on the job to supervise and give you support to build your experience.

i think some customers relate what they are paying you to there own wage and think along the lines of "that would take me all week to earn that" without realizing the cost of running machinery, in the same vain as Skyhucks story i once heard one that involved Van gough when asked by a waiter to sketch something on a napkin he scribbled something down and signed it, the waiter went to lift it only to be told thats 100 francs WHAT the waiter replied it only took you a couple of seconds YES replied Van gough it did but it took years to be this good that i can do it in a couple of seconds and THAT is what you are paying for. I dont know if thats true but always liked the sentiment behind it i also used to think did the water reply "F*** you and attack him for being a Pr*** and cut his ear off.........makes you think

Im wondering what the best day to visit the show, as we are driving down from scotland is there less traffic on the road in that region thur/fri or the sat? also are the prices better on the thur/fri when most of the custom is trade? cheers

I enjoy seeing the interactions within the crew, i know its edited for TV but i still find it very entertaining, its good to see something tree related on the tv as well, but i agree the narrator hams up the danger side of it.

Dont want to sound smug but im very busy i had 7 calls today and priced 4 jobs and got them all, mind you i do landscaping as well so 2 of the jobs where fences. i find timber fencing quite lucrative so if work gets tight guys diversify into fencing its got to be better than unemployment

Its when you see trees like that you are reminded what amazing organisms they are, i bet it would have a few stories to tell eh? Incredible.

the problem i found with doing more in a day because you had the kit was a breakdown or the weather can really back the work up, and with that came clients being let down and stress for me, i down sized and find it works better for me, moneys not the same but i would only spend it anyway !!

as per title guys, what ones would you recommend and the best place to buy one, i seen a few on ebay but not sure how accurate they will be as they are cheap. Any advice appreciated. thanks

wage scales still seem poor though for what we do, i know tradesmen Brickies,joiners,etc who are on £700 to £900 a week!! i recently built an extension and it cost me £1400 to plaster it, it took one man 3 1/2 days he had a trowel!!! no pick,chipper,saws etc, etc and he was the cheapest

hi guys does anyone have one of these and are they any good? i dont want to go down the route of a proper hydraulic engined splitter as i dont intend to sell logs its only for the one fire i am getting fed up swinging the axe! and although they are cheap (£200 ish) i dont want something else lying about my workshop that "seemed like a good idea":001_smile: cheers

I have had lots of injuries mate you will recover, if you are stretching an injury try and stay in the range just below the pain then progress to full movements (may take a while) works for me i also find that isometric strength exercises are brilliant for repairing the damage i get, ive wrecked my rotator cuffs on both shoulders and fixed them (well got good movement and strength back) go and see a specialist but pay good money as the cheap ones can give you wrong advice.

I train most of the time and would say it certainly makes the manual job easier you have to watch out you don't over train your body though (with working and gym) as it will break down and that is when you get injured. A lot of my work is done with a kettle bell for training and i work it in a tabata workout (google it!!) this gives you a great metabolic workout over a short space of time and has the benefit of working strength and cardiovascular endurance. Both of these attributes come in quite handy in our profession:thumbup:

husky 272 with a 24" bar i find it big enough for the trees i fell it is the only husky i use now as i prefer stihl.

Yep i know it well, had one a couple of years ago in edinburgh, same scenario large conifer had to go through the house, extension - kitchen - hall - front door started it late afternoon( at there request) and i kid you not they started to make there dinner!!! whilst we are trying to carry brash past them to the chipper. thats folk for you.

you constantly tell a client your not "a gardener" even though its not getting through. your head twist faster to see a mog than it does to see a women ( fingers crossed someone else does that or ive got problems) you can spot a fresh cut 100 feet up at a thousand yards from the car you can remember and recall every cut on a large take down from years ago but forget her birthday and anniversary every year....... great thread made me really laugh
