  2. Yes a fantactic place, and wonderful work they do can be heart bracking seeing the youngesters.

I was lucky enough to be chainman of the south east branch of AA and I arranged a work party for arbor day a few years back, with my company and three or four other companies in the south east. Carried out a heap of work through they woodland walk which saved the trust a lot of money as all H&S Work. Had a great day.

Most of us are very lucky to do what we do and have happy heathy children, so come on find a fiver or so.

    Cheers

    Wattie.

  3. Apart from Merrist Wood (who seem very vague on their website about cs31) are there any trainers for cs30 and 31 in Surrey? I would like to do the week long course, that finishes with assessment in both.

Ive found a company over in Dorking who do it, but dont know much about them :dontknow:

    Any recommendations gratefully received, thanks.

Your in Dorking, Mark Collis is in Dorking as well Landskills training/ Collis Tree services.

    Simple!!

  4. has anyone got anymore detail about this or similar machines?

    cost availability etc

may be just what i'm after

Was in the vermont new England back in 2002 seeing a tree company who used a John deer machine to load his truck up. When we got back my pal Mick Drewhurst found a company here which sold avent machines. Some photos attched, think the one in this thread is not as robust, we had one on hire and found it a bit light and to much plastic. The avent is a better built machine and saves so much time and back strain. We have used mick's to carry up to half ton, roll big larch section out of a woodland and with some diffacult rigging jobs.

Think there is a company in suffock who sell them or give mick a call Eastwood Tree Services- number on AA web site.

Been on my wish list for a while.

    Cheers

  5. Build a frame put the bulk bags on the frame and load them stright in, or do you drive to customers and load the bags at there. Would think the later as you would need a small hiab to unload. Re truck nice for our game I have had three still got two and my oldest one is still working with a tree company in Brighton I think.

  6. Think it all depends on how much you want yo spend, you said NEW is this new to you as in late second hand or brand new.

I have had a few but simple "Best four by four by far" Land rover but the right one not TD5 or Freelander.

    Disco 3 every time way;

1; Tows up to three ton easy

2; Fantastic off road with the amazing hill decent

3; Great for your boys sitting up higher, leather seats for all them spills!!!!

4; Great vaule secondhand at the mo good deals around.

5; Looks like a tree surgons wagon not a chelsea tractor, in tonga green looks great.

6; Can fit winch on the front and all bolt on's roof racks etc.

7; Looks big but not when your driving feels safe and solid, great ride.

8; You can get a five seater not just the seven which is cheaper to buy.

This is nice but think they only come as V8 2005 Discovery G4 edition cool!!!!

I have a couple of pals who have forgotten more then I know about land rovers old and new and they say best car they have ever built.

Worth a good look and a test drive Auto trader has some nice cars to look at.

If not then look at the Mitsubishi Challenger only up to 2006 but good all round car /four wheel drive with jap reliabity I had one for 8 years and never let me down will do all you are asking may have to put better tyres for the off road bit.

Pulled a lorry out of a field more then once with mine.

Worth a look and get a low milage one very cheap at the moment

    Cheers Wattie

  7. Looking at hiring a truck and chipper for one day, Suffolk or Norfolk..any ideas off where anyone?

Plus is their anywhere in Norfolk (Norwich) area to tip?

    Cheers Guys/gals.

Give Mick Drewhurst a call eastwood TreeServices number in book or on AA website if you cant find his number PM me and I will pass it on.

What size truck and chipper do you need, as he has a range from LDV with six inch chipper, 7.5 with bigger chipper or unimog and chipper with crane so something for all types of jobs.

    cheers

  8. Hi Fella,

I have both 180 and 260, 180 good light weight almost throw away saw at around £200, use it for light work dressing up branches for chipper or small felling logging ect, do find it a little under powered and has not the quality of parts as 260 etc wich is a craecking saw.

I am loking at the moment I am looking at the ms200 or is 220 now with a back handle, all us tree climbers know how good out ms 200 is power to weight and build quality so even through they are a bit lumpy on the price think they would last years with what you are doing.

Any of you guys out there hace one with a back handle as i think they would be a cracking ground saw up to 16inch bar!!!!

    Cheers

  9. Hi

I know that a vehicle over 3.5t needs an 'O' licence, but is a vehicle under 7.5t non hgv, thus not restricted by all off the laws associated.

Hear from all you good people soon.

Hi O licence is required by any company who runs any lorry over 5 ton, 7.5 ton is not hgv unless you put a chipper or tow with it.

I have two 6.2 ton and one 7.5 - Any one with pre 97 licence can drive 6.2s as long as truck and chipper do not exceed 8.25 ton but only driver with class one hgv can drive cargo and chipper/ trailer- But need to check licence as we have had lads who past driving test after 97 and can not tow anything on any size pick up , small tipper or large tipper but can drive up to 3.5 ton.

There would have to take a driver trailer course. Know thats a little away from what you asked but a pig tom get around.

    Hope that helps

    Regards

    Keven

  13. Amazing reach, was it an insurance job?

Can you belive it but no as it was a act of god!!!!!!!!!! - but how about this

One large limb that came off fell onto neighbours shed where he had gas bottle's stored which went up, burnt the shed down fence and almost got to the house, one limb hit the neighbours roof as well so was quite an eventful day.

Neighbour got all his work done on insurance.

    Regards

  14. Wattie,

Great job mate. Dangerous, nasty looking tree on the ground safely mate, which is the point at the end of the day, or am I missing something?

Was that a 43m Bronto you had there?

If so, was Mick Gregory operating it?

If so, remind him he owes me £20.

    Ta.

    Cheers Mark,

Yes was 43 Bronto and no not Mick Gregory

  16. We have CSI and we are not big or do lots of work for builders, to be honest I dont mind it as it is like paying your tax little by little throughtout the year end up with smaller tax bill.

Found it an easy thing to have not a lot of extra work, not think they is a wrong or right issue just how you feel about it.

    Cheers

  17. Possibly. Difficult to say without seeing the tree/extent of damage and its situation in the garden.

Seeing the massive reach on that cherry picker would now give me the insentive to take a second look at the possibility of using a truck mounted MEWP from the street/driveway. Before seeing these pics I would have looked at the option of getting a spider lift into the back garden, if that wasn't possible I'd be working out how to dismantle it from a rope and harness.

Sometimes MEWPS arent the answer to these unpredictable removals due to positioning of the turret/boom restrictions and having to work from the bucket/basket under the tree etc.

Another very expensive option on that tree would have been to use a crane with the boom reaching over the tree and using the ball/hook as an anchor point for your climbing line.

Hi no access into back garden uness we knocked down a side wall and arbor, looked at a crane but there did not want to go on the drive, and could not set up in the road due to traffic carming in place and other trafic issues.

    Regards
