    NT has form and there rewilding policies are forcing many long term tenants off their farms. At the end of the day you have to ask who benefits most from the loss of 1 tree if it allows a whole forest to be planted as part of their "rewilding" programme paid for by public funding.

    I was having a pop at renewable John for his comment that the tenant may have been within his rights to ‘coppice’ the Sycamore Gap tree, and then telling a very business-savvy member that he couldn’t read a simple contract.

     

    Maybe my tone was rude, but I wasn’t trying to drive him away from the forum, he has generally added to the site with decent input.

    I assumed you where having a pop at me for suggesting the tenant could be within his rights to cut the tree down. That was in response to cosmiccutter on page 8 of the wow thread stating the farmer could have been relieved of his tenancy by NT.  All I did was point out the law in respect of certain agriculture tenancies whereby the outgoing tenant is entitled to a waygo on any unharvested crop whether that be corn, potatoes, timber etc. Normally a value is agreed and the landlord pays it. If the value cannot be agreed then the tenant has the option to harvest the crop. Obviously for mature timber the normal caveats would apply of licences etc.

    As for the finance agreement I was not getting at the op just trying to warn that banks are not to be trusted from my own bitter experience.

    Not patronising at all just a warning that banks can make up their own rules and get away with it through the courts from bitter experience. Its a matter of court record so anyone can check it out and involves a personal guarantee given on a HP agreement that was never taken out. The company was advised by the bank if they took out the more onerous lease purchase agreement there would be no requirement for the personal guarantee. At trial the bank just stood up in court and stated they only did one sort of agreement and that Lease Purchase and Hire Purchase just referred to that one type of agreement. The Judge found for the bank and I had to pay out on the personal guarantee.

    Who would put money on this sycamore not growing back if fenced off so the public/wildlife cannot damage it.

    are you saying the tenant had timber rights and felled this before his tenancy lapsed to spite the landlord for not renewing the lease? If the tree wasn’t officially protected then this might actually be legal!

    As I said I am not going to speculate but looking through the normal landlord tenant agreement I came to the same conclusion as you regarding whether it was legal or not.

    We dont know the circumstances as yet so to early to speculate. However if it was a landlord, tenant dispute at the end of the lease and the landlord refuses to pay waygoing on the mature tree then the tenant would be entitled to coppice the tree subject to the normal caveats.

    Think part of the problem is the loss of forestry equipment dealers so no trading market available.

  11. Clean all the shit out from everywhere and then spray down with some clean oil and see if you still have a problem. Only time I had a problem with similar symptoms was due to woodchip not allowing the full travel of the control therefore not allowing the auto return.

  12. Have used a rotator for years  not only for logs but for billets as well. Rotate IBC through 90 degrees and load up with billets. Then when billets dry rotate again to 90 degree and use IBC as handling deck sliding billets straight out onto sawbench for cutting into logs.

  13. Composting is a no go due to contaminants. Your only solution is to briquette and then supply as fuel to a commercial boiler which complies with the waste incineration directive.  Dont be surprised if they charge you a gate fee for the disposal of this contaminated waste sawdust.  Horticulture operation in Yorkshire disposes of such waste but not cheap and they spent a fortune complying with the waste incineration directive.

  14. In light of the other electric chainsaw thread running I thought I would dig out this thread to find out when I got the Oregon saw and how long the chain has lasted. I would normally for my petrol Husky buy a new chain every year. This Oregon chain I have deliberately used as a trial to see how long it will last and while it still cuts its way past my annual chain replacement policy so will be getting a new chain for it.
