Finding it ok so far, I think it was worth the money when you consider what you get. Getting to Glasgow is a pain though.

Ice tail is made from the same stuff, just without the core. Lasts pretty well.

Don't worry it was'nt a little old lady, it was a roads job clearing to make way for a new road. We were supposed to have 4 men for 2 days but one did'nt show and the roads guys were right behind us with 4 excavators revving their engines. In the end we knocked it out in a day just to get out of there, it was a hard day, we earned every penny. I do wish it would happen more often though.

I'd rather price by the job than by the day, I have a day rate in my head as a target to aim for but I don't tell the client. My best day for three men plus chipper was £1900... Wish that happened more often.

That was a propper war.

A few years ago there was a spate of thefts from farms round here, on night the theives were disturbed and the police were called and gave chase. After being followed for a few miles the crooks realised they were'nt going to get away so they stopped and got out with a couple of baseball bats, the coppers turned round and drove away!!! The theives got away.

If possible keep it cool, a hallway or conservatory rather than a lounge, then you can turn the heat down without freezing yourself.

What about sycamore, tough as old boots, will do ok in most situations, dries out quickly and good calorific value as fire wood.

Quite wet when green, but burns quite hot once dry. Some of it develops massive shakes as it dries, almost splits itself.

Or just make sure you do it properly and nothing will go wrong.

Scary story, I think from memory it has to be at least 150mm in all directions from any combustible material, like a stud wall. They 're pretty heavy, a second pair of hands might be handy.

I've fitted 2 stoves and a rayburn, How easy depends on the situation, fitting the rayburn took about 2 weeks with all the plumbing and building work and relining the flue. On the other hand I fitted a stove for my Gran the other day and it took about an hour. You need to ask: do you have an opening big enough to accomodate the stove? does the flue need relining? are you fitting a boiler stove? If its Yes, No, No then it should be fairly streight forward.

Had a great cheap winter holiday in Morocco a couple of years ago, stunning scenery and great off road driving, If you like that sort of thing, pleasantly warm to.

When you read these stories about kids behaviour these days it makes you mad, but whenever anyone in power (police, government etc) says anything about it they get shouted down by all the do-gooders who want to blame everyone but the perpetrators. I have heard recently people trying to argue that its all just tabloid hype and that things are no worse than they were 10 years ago, I dont remember kids shooting and stabbing each other this much 10 years ago. Some people are genuinely frightened to go out because of kids who may not even be in their teens yet. This is the problem with a "nanny state", the more responsibility the state takes the less people feel they have to take, so the kids are bad, the parents say its not my fault and blame the teachers who blame the LEA for overworking them, the LEA blame the government for underfunding them and the government blame the last government and so on and on. When will some one in this country own up and say its my fault and this is how I'm going to fix it. Here endeth the rant.
