  1. I've just told my Millionaire neighbour friend I'm not willing to supply his firewood needs because he doesn't want to pay me enough. He offered to take two level landrover loads a week for £100 a load for the forseeable future. I wish I could have taken a photo of his face when I told him to stick it, it was class. £150 a load and I would have shaken his hand
  2. Many thanks for that Treequip, much appreciated.
  3. The fence was there before I bought the land, his argument is that it has been there for 22 years so he can claim squatters rights on the land. Hopefully the land swap I am doing will be done and dusted in a couple of months, The ones I am doing the land swap with have the rest of the woodland who's boundary is also neighbouring this guys land, so they are already aquainted with him.
  4. I would find it very difficult to keep a straight face Ed, when I was sat down, he was the same height as me when he was stood up, I kid you not
  5. Just had a one hour meeting with my multi millionaire neighbour about replacement tree cost. He nearly choked on fresh air when I told him £276 to buy 2x XHS Juglans Nigra delivered inc Vat and £158 for planting stakes and aftercare. He was constantly bartering and even tried to say I should go halves, I stood my ground and insisted. He then went on to say technically he was ok to fell the trees because the fence that he put up was on my side so the bit of land of mine on his side of the fence, he could technically claim squatters rights on. I just said, couldn't care less what he thinks, the price is the same, and when I bought the land, I also bought the fence, so the fence is now mine. Does anyone know how you stand legally in such a situation with regards to part of your land being on the other side of a cattle fence? He told me if I touch the fence he will fight me in court. I told him to grow up because I couldn't care less about it, the land was being sold. I gave him three options with regards to the replacement trees. Just to show I wasn't charging him any profit. 1: He let's me buy the tree, plant them and look after them, if they then fail in the first two years I will stand it. 2: He buys the trees and plants them and if they fail in the first two years he stands it. 3. Continue arguing with the forestry commission and the HSE He's retired to consider his options.
  6. Hey, I might try this flyer, lopping and topping lark, sounds like they get plenty of jobs off them. Although I would have to find a good size layby nearby for tipping to be able to get my prices down
  7. Technically speaking that's true Tree Monkey and I've done that many times myself, but then you have to consider wind loading and shock loading if you are rigging down, which can muliply the weight being lowered by a large factor.
  8. You are more than likely suffering low iron, more common in the female variety because of how your body works. Might be good advise to have a quick check done at the GP's.
  9. Fabric conditioner at 40 degrees There you go a proper tangent
  10. Just a quick explanaition of your working practice usually helps. If you do give a written quote go into detail of what exactly they are getting then they can ask the lower quote if it's the same spec. I have quoted for a certain spec only to find the tree has been done to a lower spec. One little tip, is on your written quotes write down things you have noted around the tree in your spec ie: Noted Hazards / Targets Public footpath Greenhouse conservatory Telephone wires Cable TV wire Basal cavity It just make the customer aware that you are observant and are not just plucking a price out of thin air.
  11. 10 years ago ripped the skin off three finger whilst being a drip. Tried to clean the sap off the teeth after sharpening a chain with a bench mounted wire wheel, which grabbed and pulled the chain into the wheel. About 20 odd stitches Never had a chainsaw cut but have had plenty of silky cuts and sliced the end of my finger off whilst fitting sharpened chipper blades, still no feeling in it
  12. The Tuepen 23 is an awsome machine and has a very respectable outreach and height whilst still being of a weight that can be towed on a trailer Only downside is fixed footprint, which is a minor downside. If I was to buy another mewp it would be that one
  13. You must make sure they have hand rails on the side. Apparently over a certain size, it is suggested that this will be an HSE requirement or so I have been told today.
  14. Quite a good job off ladders Bob
  15. I think if this is right and officails have impounded vehicles etc, then legal proceeding should take place to recover loss of earnings, trauma, and recurring nightmares suffered
  16. Only problem I can see is not being able to disappear behind a bush for a pee without being seen
  17. Cheers for that Gregsie, copy printed and stored in the truck
  18. I think this and other threads on the subject show what a mess the EA make of things and how complex it is. Yes we need one but then what about exemptions and how those exemptions work. Perhaps the EA should be pointed in the direction of this thread to see for themselves what chaos they have caused
  19. I think he may go for that one Simon
  20. Will do Bob, I'll get in touch when work settles down a bit, it's manic at the mo Cheers for that, I want the tommy bar ratchet strap tensioner so will check them out.
  21. I've had to ignore my phone for the last two days, just can't fit anymore pricing into the spare time I've got. Phone hasn't stopped ringing for two weeks.
  22. Wrong again, the first rule is don't talk about the don't talk rule of the timber lowering club
