  1. Todays job, not much but took all day, wind was that strong, it blew me off mi perch in't top o't tree 3 times. Came in handy though, just had to throw branches up in the air and they landed perfectly about 30ft into the garden Stage 1, 2 and 3 topped a row of conifer infront to the right.
  2. I nearly copped for some points coming off the ring road towards Stockport, went straight from 70mph to 30mph for a lane closure on the slip which is normally 70. Come off there so many times you don't expect a speed change, would have been totally my fault for not paying attention
  3. The dealer Bob is quoting below is very up on things and will find things out willingly. Huddersfield Saw and Tool. I'll ring him this week and see if he can do anything Do you know which one Dave used to have Bob, if you see him ask him will you?
  4. I want a tacho, the impulse type you just hold bear the HT lead. Does anyone have links to where they sell them in the uk.
  5. That would have upset me . Maybe he'll do better welds or use thicker steel next time
  6. Maybe, but the look on the customers face when your just about to fell towards the house would be classic
  7. You don't train spot do you David ??
  8. Just put a pull line in, tie to the tow ball of the defender and rag it off.
  9. "F" me! I would not use one after that, it would knock my confidence in that type of harness. I would have tack welded the screws in
  10. Do the auction John and be fair on yourself, you may be surprised. Deffo need pics though
  11. This is something I've been meaning to do for a while on Ash I want to cut off a large stem leaving a two foot stub and then on an similar tree cut one off using a pruning cut and then cross section after two or three years to see how the compartmenting has formed on both cuts. Trouble is finding two Ash you can do this to that are being removed in three years time not easy. I have been looking out for a takedown with both these cuts on but haven't come across anything as yet.
  12. I have a laser measure which I stand by the trunk, point it into the canopy to a thickish stem take the measuremnet and estimate the bit above the sten I measured to. Sometimes on a still day I can hit a leaf at the very top and measure to a foot or two. Used this method to fell three big trees into a very small garden with great success, customer was well impressed to see the trees "just" fit. I have the laser for measuring for the Mewp
  13. You only need one qualification which you are born with and if you haven't got it then your out of it. Callboy might be a better route to take.
  14. Thanks for your input DWynn, have noted the date and at the time I took some piccies just for future reference as now he has even cut off the barbers chair and put it on his firewood pile
  15. Hmmm, I thought it wrong at 35... Congrats you old T##t
  16. Is there a point where messing with tree genes goes wrong and we don't recognise it. For example, if e are talking in human terms, some of us carry the downs syndrome gene. If we "mated two trees and mixed a rogue gene, would we reconised that it is a "wrong un" and stand back and go "ooh that's different" and carry on with that line. What I am trying to say in a simplistic way is could reversion be natures way of getting back to a pure gene pool by getting rid of the rogue gene Or am I totally off track
  17. I've done the same many times to get the weight forward of the hinge. Guidelines are there to be adapted and changed to siut the senario
  18. IMO they mean jack poo. You can be NPTC'd up to the eyeballs and will still "never" cut the grade. Some people have it some dont, there will be seasoned tree cutters out there that still can't line up their gob cut and worst of all do not understand the dynamics of wood cutting, felling etc. That is what you pick up along the way and learn through experience combines with an inquisitive mind that yearns for more It's no good being able to put in a gob cut and back cut if you have no further understanding of the dynamics. I first went into tree surgery 24 years ago for about 4 years and I watched a tree surgeon do a gob cut into soft wood and he didn't even stop to think, oblivious to the fact that there would be no holding wood. He had loads of experience of felling but to him a gob cut was a gob cut whether in rotten wood or sound wood. To me it's like electricity, we all learn how to switch a light bulb on but very few understand how the light lights up
  19. I've just got the Tre Austria 3 and it's a decent harness, little more fiddly than the two to put on but very comfy. The only niggle is when you are hanging from it and twist right over to either side, the ring goes over the stitching on the end of the bridge and you have to give it a little jolt to get it back over the lump of stitching, if that makes sense
  20. So when is one of you going to come up with a fuel efficient chipper that chips limby 6 inch branches and contaminated green waste with blades that last at least 50 hours between sharpens and also when it comes to the end of the day, it checks it's own fuel, oil, greases itself, sharpens it own blades and puts itself in the garage.
  21. Your a right saddo, taking your climbing ropes with you fishing
  22. Isn't reverting the Trees way of saying, "Stop messing with me mate, I want nowt to do wi it"
  23. Should be safe as houses from a chopper, no earth. You need to earth out to get electricuted, a lesson I learned from my booby trapped containers
  24. ..and I find it hard to read your stuff m8
