You still got plenty on then Mark!? Good idea asking on here! I am working with a guy over in Sweden that said he had just done i bit of work for Beechwood. He is called Tom, from Birmingham! He arrived here yesterday!

Spruce (Picea) cones point downwards; Fir (Abies) cones point upwards.
Pull an individual needle off a Spruce and you will notice where it joins the branch there is a brown stub. If you do this with a Fir needle, it comes away on a sort of circular sucker-pad. This always works!
Douglas Fir is not either! It is Pseudotsuga menziesii - very easy to ID - buds like a Beech, and the cones are totally unique!

I've been using one for a few weeks with a 12" bar! The one i am currently using is defo not a match for a MS200/201T. I would not even think about putting a 14" on it.
Engine doesn't run too smoothly on this saw i've been using, and seriously lacks the grunt of a Stihl. This saw is a prototype i believe. It has Australian stickers all over it, dunno if it was made over there or what!? I thought they were all made in Sweden!?
Even when the saw is warm (been used for hours!!) gotta choke it to start it again. I have to give my results of the trial to Husqvarna this week. The other 2 i used a couple of weeks ago were exactly the same, and in the end they simply would not start at all, and got put in the van and swapped for MS200T's!
I am guessing mass production is being delayed until they iron out the problems!

I cannot believe the price people are asking for these books on ebay!!! Are they serious? I will sell my copy to anyone stupid enough to give me that kind of money!

There is definately a difference between a proper groundsman and a labourer. The rigging element comes with experience/tuition obviously but a lot of it is good iniative, I'm sure many will agree with me how frustrating it is when a bad groundy sends you up a blunt saw with little fuel or gets your line caught up on the ground etc. All avoidable situations with just the smallest amount of thinking applied.
A climber can be extremely annoying when your grounding as well though by doing stuff that creates more work on the ground like not cutting back to a union so branch won't go through a chipper without being cut up more or not thinking about where they drop stuff.
My point being both climbers and groundsman need to have common sense and be able to work together logically and methodically
How this is at all relevant to the thread title I'm really not too sure sorry
Well said mate!

A pretty impressive last 8 months!!!!!!

(Saying that, u need an anchor!! So depends on location i guess!!)

I have used one of these, or one very similar with JOSH in Sweden! It worked quite well, but they can slip out or can sink into the ground instead of pushing the tree (especially if the ground is soft!) But again, look at the price!! My money would be spent on a decent turfer!! Much more useful all round then the other 2 i reckon!!

I just looked again, i cannot see £1380!!!!! But i still want one!! :-(

Just did a search for that clark one.
Got this link
RAM Wedge Hydraulic Felling Wedges | Logging | Clark Forest
A big outlay for a non permanent piece of kit. I am impressed with it though.
Would be keen on a second hand one, the only way I could justify it.
Damn - that is a hell of a price tag!!! Why is it soooo expensive? I'd rather stick that cash towards a GRCS (BEING A CLIMBER) but if your JUST felling every day, i guess it would soon pay for itself!! Would love to have a go with one!

Great Pics!! Gotta get over there!! Been meaning to go for years!!

Anyone know how the rope wrench performs in serious minus temperatures, ice and snow? Does it affect it's performance?

Poison Hi-vy gets my vote!! Or that new Calamine, purple looking version! Defo avoid the PI, i find its colour a pain in the arse! Black and green! I can see why people have cut their ropes with that!! (Although i am on Tachyon atm, but when the time comes i'll replace it with a bright version of the poison Ivy!)
