  1. If I were getting somebody in to do a job, I would get a few quotes which would most likely range in price and possibly quality of service. It would be up to me to decide who I wanted to buy that service from, and nobody else. If I wanted to buy that service from somebody who wasn't my nearest service provider, whose business is it but my own? In Stihl's world, they expect to dictate to me who I deal with by placing so many obstacles in the way of my choice that I have no option but to deal with a local option. Well, Stihl can stick it where the Sun doesn't shine. :thumbdown:

  2. What I find a bit odd about this whole thing is, well, everything.

    Stihl as a manufacturer exist solely to sell equipment.

    It's pretty obvious to anyone with a functioning brain of any capacity that restricting the purchasing options their customers have will hit their volume.

    They sell their goods (allegedly) to all their dealers at the same nett price, so why would they care how these dealers shift them?

    They don't mind whether 1 million dealers sell 1 saw each or 1 dealer sells a million saws.

    In restricting their most successful volume selling dealers they set themselves at an unfair disadvantage to other manufacturers who don't adopt this policy.

    This isn't about protecting dealers, I'd be surprised of this has even come from Stihl all by themselves, it smells like Europe to me...... Such a half baked business decision doesn't feel like the brainchild of the worlds largest selling saw manufacturer. They didn't get there by making it difficult to buy their products.

  3. Gonna be a right pita for guys in the Scottish highlands or outer Hebrides!!

     

    Absolutely! Some German numpty obviously has no concerns for these guys! This new policy is totally rediculous, and Stihl deserve to loose a lot of business from this! Basically dominate the market, then refuse to post products to people! Very wise business decision! I'm totally baffled.....

  4. I'm just ready to buy a new ground saw! Was gonna get a MS392 or a MS441 and get her sent over! Really can't be bothered now! Tried my mates Husky 560XPG today - that will do me nicely! Reckon i'll just get one of them! And pray to hell it lasts longer then the last Husky i bought! But if/when it breaks, at least they will post me the bits to fix the thing!

  5. Thank you for the in-depth info Eddie@Aspen!!! How much are these pump piston kits? Is there a part number i can show to a non-english speaking Swede in the local saw shop so he knows what i want?

     

    Also someone spoke of a carb mod to blank off the piston pump, would this solve my problem? And would there be any negative effects of doing this?

  6. Thank you very much for the precise instructions!! Do you happen to know how much roughly these Carb boots, Impulse lines and the rubber O ring within the carb are? Not a lot i'm guessing... If they are cheap enough i might just replace the lot to eliminate them!

  7. I am new to stripping carbs and associated parts! Is the carb boot the rubber tunnel behind the carb with the metal ring on it?

    Where do i find the impulse line mate? I normally just send saws into a shop and let them do it, but as i am out in Sweden, due to their highly overpriced parts and labour in the saw shops, i need to figure out how to sort everything out myself now, especially using Aspen, as i can see this knowledge is gonna be invaluable!! Cheers for your patience! Your help is much appreciated!

  8. I don't think it's the tuning of the carb, but i may be wrong!!

     

    If it's this rubber ring in the carb, is this easy to replace? I think i know where you mean..... there is a screw inside the carb i saw, does that release the piston? Is it all gonna spring apart and the bits fly across the room? Or is it as simple to replace as the bits in the carb kit?

  9. Aspen is better, huh?? :confused1:

     

    Saw is 2010 model, done very little work for it's age! But ran on 2-stroke mix in UK for 2-3 years! On the contract were on in Sweden we HAVE to use Aspen! I reluctantly started using the stuff. Ran like crap immediately! Loss of power, delay between throttle and revs picking up, erratic idling, ect.....

     

    After 1 week, the fuel lines began leaking so badly the saw was unusable. I replaced them, and stripped the carb and fitted the diagram and other parts in the carb kit i purchased. The saw then ran adequately well for 3 weeks! Now it's back to it's old tricks!! New carb needed? Or is there any other problems i could be missing?

     

    I also fitted the carb kit to 2 other guys saws, with no improvement whatsoever!!! What is the problem?? Any help appreciated!!

  10. I have had the small Petzl swivel on my harness for over 3 years! Its definately needs replacing very soon! It is very worn on both ends (It tended to wear faster on the bridge end then the biner end, so i did flip it round about a year ago!) But it has lasted over 3 years and had 1000's of hours use - so it's earned it's money!!

     

    I clip a single DMM oval biner in there and use hitchclimber set-up, so it doesn't bother me that it can be difficult to clip a 2nd biner into it...

     

    I cannot imagine climbing without the swivel after 3 years with it - a mate i'm working with at the moment is climbing on a single point attachment harness (no bridge) and does not use a swivel - and i just cannot see how that can come close to giving a climber the freedom of movement that you get with a bridge and a swivel.

     

    Just my Opinion, OF COURSE! I'm sure others will totally disagree, as always! ;-)
