Whatever you try, be careful and

do not damage the engine. I'm currently waiting for parts for mine - after two weeks all I know is that they are between Italy and the UK and will be here 'soon'.

 

All I needed was a valve guide.. but no its a whole new cylinder head. and £££££

Be careful you can easily over rev the engine and cause a lot of damage. The engine is governed but you were probably overriding it. Get a tachometer and get some readings, depending on the engine you should probably be looking at 3750 rpm on full throttle no load.

 

I agree and if it's got autosweep it is very important to set the recommended governed speed properly in order for it to chip smoothly as it encounters extra load.

my Kohler command 25 has a similar problem, the revs drop off as the throttle seems to ease off during use. I checked and tightened all the associated linkages but it still does it so i simply tie off the throttle lever with a bit of string once warmed up and that holds it in the full throttle position.

 

I have heard of several udder Kohler commands doing this.

I've had the same problem twice with two stump grinders with the 25hp Kohler. First was a Predator 450 then my Vermeer sc30tx. I changed the throttle cable which solved it.
