Asian hornets

I know, I offered to fell it so that he could access it (around 35/40 feet up) but he said it was too dangerous, but he couldn’t reach with his long ladder and wobbly injector thingy, so I did anyway and the lads stood a long way away.

He does it for a living 4 months of the year, there’s money in everything if you know what you’re doing.

Funnily enough we got a large number of native hornets about this year.

I've had to encourage 4 or 5 out of the house over the course of the summer. Had to do some rapid googling to make sure it was the right variety first. Would be interested to see their nest, from a distance anyway.

I was spiking up a Douglas last week and happened to look up and see an Asian hornets nest above me (confirmed by the pest control man who came to destroy the nest)

Lucky really because they’re aggressive bastards, very nearly killed tree guy a little while back.

Looking at the proliferation in the CI, are they very common in France Mick?

We've had several in the house and a neighbour has a nest in theirs. I think there's a few more nests about as the hornets fly off in different directions when they 'hawk' our honey bees. Still, I've seen our bees fight back and ball a hornet.

Thankfully not seen an Asian hornet yet.

Apparently, there’s a procedure to report and destroy the nests but in practice it’s pointless.

If it’s near houses, prolly, but France is a big place with huge areas of woodland/farmland.
