Modifying tw190 roller spring area?

Hi all. Anybody know if it would be a bad idea to modify the roller area on a 190? The crap collects behind the springs and a pain to remove. I'm thinking of cutting the black frame and fitting 2 pieces of all thread to attach the bottom of the springs to. Hopefully then the crap will fall out underneath? Machine is done every Friday, but like today being a pain on ripping conny hedge out. All thread will go where the stick is in pic.
