Bars for forestry

Still using mostly Oregon. Occasionally go wild and get a Sugi, but most of the time I find they're too heavy and a nightmare to dress when they do need it. Never really had a problem with wear on the Oregon bars. Running Husky saws and a Dolly.

This ! I have 15" Oregon and Sugi on my pair of 560's and would pick the Oregon up every time ....it's lighter and the saw handles better ,If you were using it for Arb work you would not notice the difference probably but all day usage on say snedding out Sitka you certainly do notice.

Places like Axminster and Screwfix do diamond sharpening 'stones' at 6" x 2" that are ideal for dressing bars, even Sugi ones. Stick them on a piece of flat wood or in a slot cut with a router at a right angles to get perfect dressing :) :)

They work out cheaper than files anyway, as they last longer.

Isn't a tsumura bar the same as a sugi hara as seem very simlar apart from lightweight versions? also who sells GB bars in 20" thats not in australia

Tsumura and Sugihara are neck and neck rivals / not the same company. Can't remember when I get the GB from, tis on eBay. Rob D does some GB remember too. I have some Carlton Tsumura on the old 036. Super strong bars, more like felling levers! 100g lighter than Stihl equivalent.

Mostly Husky, Husky made by Oregon, Oregon and a couple of OEM Stihl - but also Tsumura L&T and Sugihara Superlight (laminated).

The Tsumura and Sugi ones because I wanted them, the others because they were easily available when I needed them (or came with my saws).

Anyone know where to get Tsumura bars from in the UK? I've been after them for ages . .

Simon O'Rourke has some Tsumura carving bars and a good contact with the company. He might be worth asking. I got mine directly from Japan, but the import and Vat duties made them expensive. :(
