Which/wych Elm?

I'm fairly sure it's 'european'.

 

Looking closer, it's uniformly hairy underneath along the mid rib and major side veins. Top side of leaf is also hairy but really fine. The shoots are also hairy, There's next to no petiole and many of the leaves are almost square topped.

 

The leaf margins are serrated, with each major serration sub divided - can't recall the proper term.

Collins Tree guide says that there's 14-20 pairs of veins to the leaf, which these have. The lack of burrs/epicormics really threw me - and not having any books to hand.

 

I hate identifying elms, particularly because the seem to be so rare up here and always doubt myself in my idents.

 

There was one or two things I wanted to look at, just to confirm the identification, but my missus decided that the sample I brought home wasn't needed anymore and binned it. - The dustmen came this morning:sneaky2:
