As the guys have pointed out I'm sure there are plenty of examples where you're spot on.

The thing is as PAYE you could turn up in your pants to do the job. Every other thing is paid for by your employer, or should be. Not forgetting holidays, pension contributions and sick.

Freelance climber rates would amount to about £40k a year by my maths. There won't be a single PAYE climber in the country on that, and there's a good reason for it.

Why don't freelance climbers form a union? If there is a demand why can't the rates be better regulated? I know I'm a total noob here and to be honest I signed up for the milling forum and can't pass up s good rant but it seems like you guys need some Norgie guidance. :D
