Clean and Flush Oil Tank

I want to drain and flush out the oil tank on my Stihl saw. There is a lot of conflicting advice on how to do this online ranging from using petrol to diesel as the 'solvent', temporarily blocking the oil pipe etc. I will be replacing the filter at the same time. Grateful for any advice.

Many Thanks

John

If you're going to flush the tank you might consider going the extra mile and removing and ckeaning the oil pump and surrounds as well. There are a few good YouTube vids - Donnyboy springs to mind. I would flush with white spirits and reuse for cleaning creasote brushes or whatever. Half fill the tank, close, slosh around, leave sit a while, slosh some more and empty - repeat a few times. Then retrieve the filter line with a hooked wire, change filter, fill with white spirits again and run the saw a while to flush the chanells and pump.

I put a chux cloth in the dish of a big funnel, and have the funnel in a big clear bottle. Empty the saws oil into a funnel and the chux cloth works as a filter for the wood chip. then put the funnel in the saw and empty the oil back into it then repeat until I have got most of it.

Its fast and pretty clean and easy to do before its to blocked
