Small stoves for house

Hi looking for some advice on smaller stoves. My current fire place opening is W 430mm D 350mm H 560mm, hearth depth from fire opening 430mm. Are their any 4kw + multi fuel stoves which would fit in this space, still give good heat output without having to increase the fire opening or increase the hearth depth as I believe the hearth has to extend 300mm beyond the stove??

Sounds like your looking for an `inset` stove, if you don`t want to open the fireplace up & put in a freestanding stove ... you might need to create a slightly bigger opening but you should hopefully be able to keep the original fireplace.

Do not put a freestanding stove in there, while it is legal you need a decent air gap around the stove to achieve a good airflow and getting the heat out into the room.

While I dont have the dimensions to hand it sounds like the Esse 301 inset range ticks all your boxes. You need a hearth depth of 400mm from the front face of the opening to comply legally but a bit more would be nice.

No 225mm in front is still the legal min but we prefer to see 300mm or sometimes more to cover the sweep of the door.

Someone else posted about efficiency of insets due to only one exposed face.

The Aarrow Ecoburn 5 and 7 have just that, one exposed face that radiates heat, frankly I dont really like them. They do heat but not to the extent of a convector inset stove and are best used where its more a feature rather than a major supplier of heat.

Convector insets have an air channel between the firebox and the outer case, air is drawn into the channel from the room, circulates between the two using convection and is returned into the room as warmed air. So the whole depth and back of the stove are used to create convected heat as well as the front providing radiated heat. Examples of this design of stove are the Esse 301 and 350, the Aarrow I series and all Morso insets.

The Aarrow Ecoburn 7

That`s what I`m getting installed, so you don`t rate them much then Alycidon? the convector type sounds good! My landlord is getting the Ecoburn 7 installed so I have to be grateful & happy about that really I suppose! :001_smile:
