75mm+ forstner bits

Big Beech

Since my request went unanswered on the wine bottle thread, I am looking for advice on which bit i should be looking at.

The job at hand, hopefully is to make a rustic centre piece wine rack for our new front room . Unsure of sizes etc. But ideally will hold 6+ wine bottles.

I have looked at the Milwaukee bits which have a replacement cutter but are currently out of stock, the colt version looks the dogs, but so is the price :001_rolleyes:

So any suggestions greatfully received :thumbup1:

Would like to make something similar to this image

Snag is at that size a cheapy bit that goes blunt quickly is going to kill your drill. Another expensive option are Famag bit from FAMAG Bormax Forster Bits | FINE TOOLS. Don't know the exchange rates but cheaper than a Colt bit I saw over here. Could you use a hole saw and chisel out the waste and repeat? Probably would be hard to get the bottom of the hole neat though.

Edit. These look good http://www.mtmc.co.uk/Dewalt-Self-Feed-Forstner-Bit-Drills__p-39037.aspx Never used one but previous experience of other Dewalt bits has been good.

These bits are good. I have the 50mm one, brought for roughing out mortises for green oak framing. Last week I bored into a Jarra hardwood sleeper I that borders the garden with it and plugged the wife's rotary clothes line into it. It cut it easy and as clean as a whistle !

Holesaw and Arbortech turboshaft :)

The shaft only goes in 4" max, but was always told it's what you do with it that counts

Saying that I am looking for deep penertration of nearly the full depth of a wine bottle

Makes me feel I am getting my monies worth!
