Tipper trailer charging and work lights on trailers

How do people charge the battery on their tipping trailers, apart from the obvious mains charger overnight?

And does anyone have extras like work lights, flashers or 12v sockets on their trailers? And if you do how are they powered and controlled?

 thanks, William.

You could use a 12s socket/plug like on a caravan, that could give you power for charging or power sockets, and use the spare fridge control pins/ wires for work lamps or beacons.

A simple way for beacons is use some low power consumption lamps wired into side lights with a switch, or a din pole mount, just means you would have to get out to turn them on, or mount the beacon.

Or change for 13 pin sockets, which would have a 12v pin could be used for charging / power supply, and fridge control pins which could be used.

You would need to have the charging ideally done through a split charge system, also fused, so if the battery when flat, your not trying to power the tipper through a small wire.

Whatever you do, remember the danger of the current trying to run to the tipper battery from the vehicle battery.

Problems can be avoided with a split charge system or a simple diode, best of all is to disconnect the wire for the charge system, before operating the tipper

I use one of 16 Amp 110V Industrial IP44 Rated Plug - [HC-16AP115] You need heavy wire as if the trailer battery is flat it will draw its current from the main battery and thin wires can get hot... They are cheap as chips and work well, I have to replace min every 2 or 3 years as the amount of road salt they use up here takes its toll. Just mount the female end on the towing vehicle and the male end on the trailer, the terminals are guarded on both ends so it can't short out if it touches the trailer chassis when not in use.
