Stump Grinding

Hello folks

See if any of you have came across this before, I grinded out a stump today

that been cross cut by a chainsaw. and I suppose they have tried to put in diesel or somethin in there to try and kill off this big stump. No success.

And I grinded it out, and it for a while I thought I had a major hydraulic oil leak on the machine, the full grinding wheel was full of some fluid oil substance, and after much wondering I understood it must come from the tree stump. the machine was fine. I don't know if the customer been filling this stump with something. Or if it was from the tree stump itself.

The full side of the grinding wheel was soaked with it, felt like the Greece you Greece your machine with.

Best Regards

Stefan

Have had this a couple of times.

Sometimes it was the crosscut, sometimes that sauce collected because the stump was a tiny bit hollow. Ranges from a few spoons to a few pints.

Remember my very first stump I ground... was scared my machine spills hydraulic fluid on the customers property. As if a first job isn't exciting enough.

Best regards

Marne

An oil compnay I used to work for had a driver who ran hoses though houses if it was quicker than going round the back. A hose burst. The company had to put the family up in a hotel, demolish the house, remove and replace soil to some ridiculous depth and then build them a new house. Cost an astronomical amount.

Not on the same level as that. I have removed plenty of oil/diesel/?? filled stumps, where people have attempted to set fire to stumps or rot them off with creasote (I don't understand that one). Fluid pours out during the grind, usually I end up goind home smelling of whatever mix of pungent substances someone has applied to stumps.

Ah, that explains the unusual smell coming from your trousers I noticed on Friday Stumpy. 🙂
