To big to pollard (top and lop)

If one of the options is fell it and be done, why not pollard it right back to the trunk almost?

Leave one branch to act as a lung and cut that off when the tree gets going again.

Can look a bit of a bollox but will be a nice looking tree again soon enough. Nature has done a few like that at my place (blown big limbs off) and they grow back again.

 

Keeps the tree and neighbours are happy.
