Stihl Trimmer Scabbard

I'm stopping using the scabbard on my new hedgetrimmers, they dont allow the blades to dry if you put them away wet.

 

Got them out this morning and they were a right mess, the blades are starting to "pit" they have rusted that bad, other trimmers dont have a scabbard and are still ok

 

Can stihl put some ventilation in their scabbards please

i always take them out and clean them off and dry them first after a wet day, then one of the lads lost both of them in the one day. they are only really good for not catching stuff when they are on. i never replaced them.

I always wipe my hedgetrimmers after use and then give a spray of WD40. It's reccomended that you spray the blades everytime you fill the fuel tank. Will keep the blades like new and stop any residue sticking

i used to always have a fairy liquid bottle fool of chain oil, and put it along the blades every fill, i just stopped doing it one day. i think i should start. i do the same mate, a quick scoosh of wd40, but i found with the dehumidifier now in the container now the saws and stuff are so much dryer. and i always blast them down with the compressor after a wet day to

buy the proper stihl lube and blade cleaner

worth every penny

stops crud build up and lubes as well

mine look like new

I spray them down with WD, then pump chain oil from an old oil can onto the cutters before they are hung up every day. I also try to remember to file off any burrs regularly to keep a clean cut.

I keep a jam jar of oil and a 2" paint brush on the workshop bench and liberally coat the blades at the end of the day, then put the scabbard back on.

The other thing I have just discovered the hard way is to only use genuine stihl grease in the gearbox. Seems like any other grease just melts.

WD40 sprayed on every fill and at the end of the day plus brush the muck off the air filter.

 

The stihl resin solvent is too expensive if your using them more than twice a week.

Get some of the Stihl Harzloser ( or summat) spray. well worth it. Also the stihl resin remover is wick wick wicked.
