Your restricted with the amount of travel 40" I think as you have to get it just past tipping point .

 

40" sounds like plenty, thanks Ian.

 

If the Tree was leaning more than that I think I'd let it go where it wanted. I'm only planning on 'tweaking' the ones with a small unfavourable lean.

So, felling season has come around again in t' wood and I'm looking at low tech tools to make life easier and save the back. I'm particularly interested in the Tree Jack and the Junior Fetching Arch from Orion Heating and would be very interested to hear anyone's opinion on them.

I bought a buck logging arch for a job moving rail size lumps of sweet chestnut. It is clearly a very well build product but the ground was soft and I could lift very large logs but it sunk about 6 inches in to the ground so the only way I could move it was with a hand winch. Very slow and backbreaking.

I think you can get a flotation tyre option on them. Do you think this would have made any difference?
