Personal opinion only, Chch is one of the dullest places in NZ. Suft is boisterous but cold off Otago(Dunedin)

Hi Goaty, what makes you say that? For me I believe it would be a great place - surf and fishing nearby and the mountains not too far away for skiing over winter

Cheers

I have spent 9+ months in Nz. We have visited most of both islands. Chch is flat and relatively isolated as pretty much anywhere in the South island. Its advantage is the higher population, but for me its like being in a university City in England. Which for that Id stay in this country. We have been through Chch a couple of times and never felt the urge to stay. It also has a fog/still air problem which made it regulated for solid fuel burning. Again this is most un NZ like. Fresh air is everywhere apart from the Waikato region central North Island especially in the heat of summer.

This is my own narrow experience. I go to NZ for the fresh wide open space. As for traveling to or from Chch its the most Boring long NZ driving, we choose to fly from Dunedin to Chch then to Auckland for the flight home.

No insult to anyone that lives there or likes it. Its just not New Zealand for us. Id go to Oxford or Peterborough instead. Its handier.
