Old Husqvarna 61, no spark

My saw was working fine, no hint of any problems to come, and then it cut out while I was using it.

There's no spark. Can you suggest any measurements or things I could check to figure what's going on. The on/off switch is fine, no contact to body when 'on', no resistance when 'off'. If I take the connection to the coil off the switch and check that, it seems there is no resistance between that wire and the body. Is that right?

It's one of the old models with a grey top and a two-part ignition system.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received, as I'm a long way from any place I could take it in to get looked at. Thanks.

Under the starter on the bottom right hand side the eletronic unit connects to the coil, check the connection under the small screw is good, if ok check both wires from the unit for slits whick could be earthing it out, failing that it will be a replacment electronic box, the coil very rarley fails, the early units were blue Prufrex units, the later ones were black SEM units.

The black SEM unit is part no. 501516101 if you have the metal switch, or 501516102 if you have the plastic switch, the only difference is the size of the terminal on the switch, put the part no. into the web and see who has one, and the cheapest

It works! There was a spark and when I tried again it started second pull. I did what you said

Took the connection apart and put it back together again and it must have been wrong because that has sorted it.

Very happy!

Thank you.
