Parish council agree to fell tree - how to stop?

I'd disagree - looks in good health to me.

Your not a consultant are you? An arb report has been done and the council will act on the findings, the council has no legal duty to put out letters, flyers etc unless there are legal reasons to do so but it does have a legal duty of care of its property.

No I'm not Ian, but neither is the author of the report. Its from a 'tree surgeon'. My view is that it could be worthwhile to ask for a second opinion?

You can disagree all you want but the report doesn't say its going to croak (till phytopthora gets to it) but is says its likely to fail structurally.

Get someone who understands the wording to explain the significance

Thanks for your input Treequip,

As I've said before I'm not in the industry, just a woodland owner, thats why I value the views of Arbtalkers. Do you not think its worth asking for a second opinion or do you feel that report is conclusive?

A qualified tree surgeon who has a qualification in arboriculture or who can back up his findings is more than capable of doing basic tree surveys and reports, I might be wrong and he has nothing but if the council asked him to do a report I would take it as he's suitable for the job.

Thank you Ian,

I will check to see if this is someone thats suitably qualified. As you say you'd like to think that it is. Even so its ony one opinion. My view is that, whatever the subject, acting on one opinion alone is unwise. In my opinion if two or three qualified specialists agree that the tree needs felling then of course I would accept that.

The things the report describes are hard to mistake and even harder to argue with, get a second by all means but,,,,,,,,,

A first year student would be able to spot these defects

For every report the council gets done there is a cost, so it's highly unlikely it will commission 3 reports on a tree at 300 quid a go! When you go to the dentist and they say you need a filling do you pay 3 times just to make sure ????

Thanks for your opinion Treequip, I value your response. I may be wrong about this tree, we shall see.
