Thanks Matty

I've emailed the tree officer just now - lets hope they get on the case. My biggest concern is that the tree is felled before due process can take place. I just hope that there only at the quoting stage.

What area in Norfolk are you in ? Some Tree Officers are a bit more proactive than others!

Our parish council thought they had similar powers to yours, but if it's in a conservation area they have to give notification just like everybody else, also the property owner would need to prove or establish a good reason for its removal ,I too like you live in a conservation village in Norfolk ,with several people who wish to change the character of the village on a whim.

Hello Phillip,

You've been through something similar then? My experience is that the parish council does have a tendancy to make decisions without an awreness of its legal obligations. I'm in Breckland - where are you?

I think the tree should be saved. Print some T-shirts, start a petition, dance around it swinging corkers and then get the local rag to come on side.

I want this tree to live. :thumbup1:

Naaaaah..... Get tanked up in the pub, whip up a fury amongst the local firebrands, deputise a posse and ride him out of dodge!

Job done.

But still get the topless girls chained to the tree......

Tourism hits a new high, parish council approve plans for a theme park on the parish boundary, green field site sacrificed for the development and new dual carriageway to cope with increased traffic. Pub gets bought out by a hedge fund chain and turned into a carvery diner with kids soft play area and village green gets tarmac'ed over for a car park!

I am a parish councillor, and we had a similar request. A holly tree was growing close to this guys boundary, and he was worried about it damaging his fence. The tree is not in a conservation area, but is on a piece of amenity green and woodland.

we as a council decided the tree should remain, as felling it had a detrimental affect on the area, and it would set a dangerous precedent for others. You live by a wooded area, enjoy it and put up with it was our stance.

I am somewhat surprised by your local council, and I can only think this guy is mates with them all.

kick up a stink at the next meeting, and make as much of a nuisance as you can with the local TO

 I've told the girls that the expert advice from arbtalk is that they need to chain themselves naked to the tree. Then I need to take some pics and post them on here, that should sort it out

Get someone to talk to the guy who want's it chopped down and ask him if he's considered the risk of heave on his wall when the tree is no longer taking up all the moisture (I've no idea if there is any risk but always a good idea to sow doubts in peoples minds :) )

But do go ahead with the chaining naked women to the tree as well :)

New Buckenham! Probably not a million miles away ,I've not been contacted to give a quote!! So maybe they are not that far on with it ,if you feel it's worth a TPO go for it ,I got one put on a tree in our village that was under threat.

Hugh Coggles is the Tree Officer part time at Breckland and South Norfolk.

I'm near East Dereham not too far! I hope you're right Philip. Whats Hugh Coggles like? Is he based at Dereham? You don't happen to know what days he works do you?

 I like that idea Lorgod - perhaps I could find a bespectacled acdaemic type who could be a soil expert. He could advise the neoghbour on the risks associated with flling the tree (subsidence most likely, doesn't that not get covered by insurance?) :thumbup1:
