Recomend a small saw for hedglaying

Wanting a small chainsaw for hedgelaying with the season fast approaching. Looking for something neat and nimble with a short bar. It's not going to be used to death just part time use over the winters. Only saw I have seen so far is a baby stihl, think it was a 170/171. Not fussy about brand.

Thanks

Tried it Matt.

The temptation to use it one handed while holding the pleacher is too strong so going for rear handled saw :laugh1:

Exactly why its the perfect hedge laying saw. I know its frowned upon though:laugh1: I use it both handed until im nearly finished with the cut then just feather the throttle whilst holding the pleacher with the other hand to guage the flexibilty of the holding wood just right.

Personally i find it perfectly safe using it like this but expect a barrage of critism regardless:lol:

Just had a gander and do a fair range of small saws. Anyone in particular you could recommend?

I've got a CS450 but I reckon that would be a bit big for what you need, Certainly can't complain about the quality though. Just remember to take the spark screen out of the muffler for a bit better performance. :thumbup1:

I've been thinking the same although never done it. I was using a 550 last season but with 8tooth sprocket it was almost a bit to quick for hedging ;)

If i had mainly small stuff I was thinking about a battery saw as nice and quiet and doesnt have to be sat on tickover while laying

Cheers
