What about speaking to your local tree officer to ask if they will put a TPO on the tree (explain the circumstances) so that if happens again, the council can prosecute?

If you do take legal action, as I understand it, you would then have to inform any prospective purchaser when you come to sell your house.

 

I think all such actions are recorded somewhere, so just be aware.

 

Taking legal action against someone for a criminal act wont make it a dispute.

 

Where do you think such things would be recorded?

: that's the first avenue I think I would look (after rejecting the Charles Bronson solutions)

 

The last thing you want is to somehow be penalised by a screwed up system where it will cost you loads, and maybe even get some feedback from your neighbour in a court setting where he has a list against you (and the court somehow are sidetracked from the original complaint and it becomes a circus)

 

So what do you do? That's not going to cost you loads and you defo haven't left the untrained/inexperienced tree mutilator off the hook?

Getting a TPO might be more hassle than it's worth, ie when you want to prune the tree yourself and if selling the house? Would take a lot of photos anyway, personally I'd speak to a lawyer and see what they say.

go around to your local police station is it not tresspass ! criminal damage ! theft , vandalism at the very least maybe the police would have a word i am sure ,,,

Report them! Disposal of waste act. i.e. Fly-tipping! The council must act on this.

It would p1ss me off no end if someone cut my tree. However is it really worth spending hundreds/ thousands on legal fees?

 

Does your neighbour own the house or is he a tenant?
