Is it a ally side or steel side bed on the 1 your getting?

If your going ply just stand a sheet at either side and bolt through the standard sides then measure and cut a sheet as a headboard and wedge it in and repeat bolting the the standard headboard then use some mettle angle brackets to strengthen sides to front sheet.

Simple but effective, paint the ply to look less like a wooden box and your away.

You'll get about a year to 18months till you'll need to replace the timber but hopefully by then you'll have saved up enough to get a full Metal box made.
