Rob D sent me a whole mix of files and IMO the Stihl was the best allround file.

I often use a larger file to restore a chain that's taken a beating but then go back to the standard size, and I always file free hand so it's good for cleaning out the gullet but you do have to watch how close you are to the tie strap.

I used the Save edge ones. They are very aggressive when brand spanking new so maybe good for major damage but found they lose their edge quickly. The Stihl ones take a finer cut but keep going for longer.

I might have to try them I always use Oregon but do get through a lot of files

I have found exactly the same . The Save Edge need to be tapped out more often to make them last longer . Oregon files are not what they were 20 years ago !

I use Oregon and have been thinking of Save Edge but got a deal on boxes of Oregon flat & round. I get through more flat than round; the flat ones don't last long, even when tapping to keep clean.
