Fings wot broke

Looking at some of everyone’s things that have broken has made me realise small company small issues however I have had my fair share of crap since January. The Transit has been the biggest of my problems. Had the front near side bearing go. Then engine malfunction popping up and it kept going in to limp mode. Diagnostics showed sod all. So after a half day checking all the pipes and every inch of the engine noticed the waste gate was jammed and the actuator was the issue, it’s built in to the turbo so had to replace the whole thing, gave it to my local Machanic as I knew he would get it done quicker than I would and I had some big work coming up £900 down but happy to have it done. Anyway there was a noise coming from the van and I assumed it was the sound of air rushing through the waste gate. But no it was coming for the rear of the van and sounding a lot worse than it used to, kept my fingers crossed for a rear bearing, but no of course it’s the diff, checked the oil level, very low and metal filings in it. I wasn’t even going to attempt that fix so it went in to a gearbox specialist £2000 later and the van is back on track.
I’ve had issues with the tail lights on the chipper so as I’ve taking the led lights off that have caused nothing but issues and replaced them with normal bulbs but still had problems. So spent 3 hours early one morning with a torch under the van and found the cable had been pinched by a bit of Woodchip and the wires had been crossing (I effing hate electrics). The blunt chains are building up, the grinder has a flat tyre and a missing grease nipple, got a 261 that I need sort the carb out on and the ram on the tipper keeps getting stuck on the last ram and I have to give it a good jerk every time to give it that last push. The radio in the van has a bad earth as well (the guys are most pissed off about this one). I have Monday and Tuesday to start working through the list so better get that radio sorted first ?‍♂️.

right that's it Haynes manual will be dusted off and my transit diff is getting an oil change, never even checked the level in 70,000 miles of ownership, total covered 145k. Its done well really.

Edit - a bit of poking around on the transit forum re diff (Mk 6) 'Transit rear axles were designed as filled for life. '

Also says in the Haynes manual that checking diff oil not a Ford service requirement. No drain plug - will check the level anyway and just squirt some in if needs be. Maybe go fishing for swarf with a magnet

To be honest I would never have checked it if there wasn’t some sort of issue. It’s pretty much a closed system but the guys in the gear box said some oil will get flung down the shaft (minimal amounts over long periods) and this may be the issue as the van has done just over 100k and may never have been checked. Usually not an issue but bloody expensive if it does go tits.

Should I go left? should I go right? Should I try to do both?
Dealer replacement includes upgraded ball joints. It seems to be a common failure. Pity it failed in the middle of the laneway back to the house, leaving both car and jeep stranded, upside is herself gets to drive the mog to yoga later.20190311_143435.jpeg20190311_143442.jpeg20190311_143426.jpeg

[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] shouldnt laugh but thats great, its one of those moments ‘its so fucking shite that its so fucking good!’ ? hope you get it sorted sharpish! [emoji106]
No joy on your MOG Conor from my minion [emoji30] he said they’re pretty bomb proof, theyre renowned for using a bit of oil but not mega amounts. Only thing he did say was the later engine om366 had a recall for running on wrong spec of oil and it caused em to glaze the bores resulting in oil use, smoking, etc.
What variant is yours? 352_? Is it turbo’d? Original ones werent, lots got turbo conversions done, merc later released one as turbo’d variant 352a.
Other than checking that gasket i mentioned for intake/valve train, then your gona be in to checking the engine internals and doing the obvious whilst its in bits.

Is it the ram tipper or the scissor one the ram is a lot more powerful than the scissor in my opinion

out of curiosity does many people use the likes of tpuk or Facebook group transit city parts are so cheap and you can go to my local scrapyard and get rear axles for mk6/7 transit tippers for about £250/£300 and just about any other part aswell
