Space cab/ King cab/ Xtra cab question

Hmmm, that sounds like just another excuse to cripple the working man. Sorry to be nosey, but who is your ensure r ?

 

I insure with Direct Line and you're not being nosey; fair question.

A couple of possibilities come to mind as to the explanation for the hike in premium but they are my guesses only.

First, the rear 'seats' are dropdown bench seats and are likely to be seen as providing less protection of their occupants in the event of vehicle collision.

Second, I know from the lease company (I asked) that the roof bars that the Double cab has can't be fitted to the Kingcab because there is reinforcement to the roof of the Double, not the King. Obviously the Kingcab's roof is shorter but if you think lack of reinforcing...rolling the vehicle... you can see an opening for an insurer to think increased risk of occupant injury.

Just my guesses.

I got a great quote from Direct Line (online) for my Transit last year, but when I rang them they said they don't insure tippers, at all.

 

The bloke didn't know why.

 

Any theories?

He'd heard of you. In the insurance world "tippers" is short for fly tippers.

I've not had a problem with my insurance, cost me around £300 a year.

Didn't really notice them being more expensive than double cabs when I bought it either. But I didn't actually look at double cabs.

My handbook tells me I can put roof bars on it. Can't remember the limit. Something like 50kg per bar. I have two there bars on there and a fabricated bar at the back of the buck. Always carrying lumber around so roof bars a must for me.

Um - no; sorry. At the risk of appearing as bigoted as some are perhaps insurers have had bad experiences of the owners of tippers rather than of the vehicles themselves.

Sorry, I didn't mean you can't put bars on a Kingcab - I've got a Thule set - I was referring to the factory-fitted chunky rails running lengthways.

I should have said rails, not bars - my bad.

When i tried to get a quote from direct line, they said they do not offer comercial policies.
