Chain brake problem

Can't move clutch drum at all!!!removed the clutch and the drums turning the centre boss on the clutch seems slightly low,will have to check it out against a new one.

 

Check the splines in the oil pinion that the clutch drum slots in to, chances are they have been crushed and it isn't meshing properly!

 

Been here before and speak with experience!

Look at the four high points on the oil pump gear, if there is any damage, then the drum has not been engaging and not sitting down properly, this in turn will allow the clutch to jam against the sprocket

When you start to tighten the clutch the drum is locking up.could the needle bearing be worn on the length letting the clutch sit against the drum.

If you take the clutch drum off you will see a plastic cog that drives the chain oil pump.

 

This cog fits the same splines as the rim sprocket.

 

Either the splines are not engaged or you have squashed the cog and its dragging on the shaft.

Thanks for all your help guys,on closer inspection there was some debris on the plastic cog not letting it sit low enough don't know if it was me or the previous owner.will order some new parts to be on the safe side.thanks again for your help. Rab

Thanks for letting us know, go careful when you fit the new one, rev the saw than slap on the chain brake a few times to tighten it and don't rev it up and then release the throttle without having done this as the clutches can spin undone enough for them to then do up and not in mesh with the oiler gear worm drive pinion.

 

If this happens, the chain will start spinning all the time!
