im strongly considering getting out of firewood...ive been saying that for the past couple of years now, but looking at the figures this year i just dont see its feasable without putting my prices up a lot higher than id be happy about. is anyone else in a similar situation? i heard of one haulier selling cord at £60 a ton not far from me....not even worth considering buying at that money!!

I can see that point Steve, but think its still worth processing surgery waste for now as its not bought in. Extra work i guess but zero cost.

As for processing cord to sell, different matter unless you are in such a large way it makes it pay. This size scale would take a lot of doing along side running a tree surgery business.

Just my ten anyway. Pete.

i dont get enough waste to make it viable...i have to buy in.

at the moment i pay £80 per month for my yard, which to be honest, if i didnt sell firewood i would no longer need.....plus my processor which i could sell now for what i paid for it 5 years ago. I'd also no longer need my ldv as a small van such as a mercedes vito would be great for contract climbing and could be kitted out inside very nicely indeed. its a very tempting proposition.

I think if your buying it in at high cost you can't do it unless your completely set up for it. I wouldn't dream of buying it in unless it was mega cheap. I only process my waste and see it as a few quid beer money (obviously taxable)

Hence if somebody offers me £20 quid on site for the wood 9times out of 10 they can have it so long as it goes before I leave site.
