Question

My fantastic Polish builder has done such a great job on our house that I trusted him wholly when he recommended a supposed qualified aborist to crop a bit of height off our gorgeous cherry plum trees. Unfortunately it would seem he had no idea what he was doing as I came home to x2 completely butchered trees - every single leaf bearing branch removed. I am completely and utterly devastated :(

What do you recommend I do??

Do I keep them and wait for them to grow back??

Does anyone know how long this will take?!

Will we see any green this summer??

And will they ever blossom again??

How quickly might they grow back??

I'm not sure how long I can stand seeing the depressing stumps for that long...

Would be great to hear any advice or recommendations that might help us through this dreadful situation.

Thanks so much.

Need pictures to make opinions, before and after would give the full picture if possible.

If you are talking about the maroon/purple leave cherry plum. They tend to have vigourous regrowth, but will need formative pruning to get get shape back in the next couple of years.

And will they ever blossom again?? Most likely next year, fruiting trees respond to stress with reproduction to ensure species survival often

How quickly might they grow back??If its what I think it is yes

It sounds like your builder either did the work himself or just got in people to carryout the works who aren't that skilled. Have you got any photos? then we will be able to look at it closely and let you know if its likely to spring into life.

Thanks

It's also the wrong time of year to prune any prunus species as they are a lot more susceptible to vascular wilt diseases.

If he's butchered them they are most likely to grow back with great vigour and will need as said formative pruning in the future. It may be now you will see the best blossom ever in a few years if they recover.

You need to definitely get some pictures up so we can see what's been done.
